I wish I could use the same excuse, but sadly its not :[My half brother and father have smoked for upwards two decades and they're starting to resemble m grandparents despite the fact my brother is just recently turning 30, perhaps I'll learn from their mistakes, or maybe the nicotine craving is hereditary.

S maybe because most smokers, whereever we go, get some form of slack for smoking. I mean, the other day I was smoking outside by a bus stop and the wind kept blowing the smoke in the direction of some lady who felt no shame in doing 'the cough'. Y'know- fake coughing to make a point. I can't stand those people[QUOTE="HellsAngel2c"][QUOTE="EMOEVOLUTION"]
Wait a second here.. as a non smoker I'm not allowed to tell you that smoking is stupid? While you're allowed to tell me how awesome smoking is and why people should have pride in smoking? This is hardly a fair topic. IF I see somebody engaging in a behavior I find offensive.. or unnecessary. I will tell them so.. Especially if they want to act like it's the best thing in the world. IF you want to smoke fine.. I get it.. but what I don't get is why you have to talk about it and act like it's great. IT reminds me of the whole fat pride thing.. Because I don't want to live a healthy life style I'll embrace the fact I have bad habits. Doesn't make sense to me.
IT really boggles my mind why people only want one sided conversations about something. OH, lets talk about smoking.. but you're not allowed to talk about the negatives. Seriously?

Same here, I'm an considerate as I can be around non-smokers but do I get a bit of slack for it? No do I sod.
I can't stand the anti-smoking crusade - I don't come round to your houses, slap the burger out your hand and tell you how disgusting you are. So I expect to be treated like an average joe, not a social outcast thanks.
How the hell do people find smoking offensive?! ARGHH
Why did you start smoking to begin with? What's the point in smoking? Please, enlighten me?Why do people think that others are on some form of crusade because they disagree with somebody else behavior? It's pretty unreasonable to expect people to shut up and say nothing when somebody is doing something you don't approve of. OH, EMOEVOLUTION, why can't you just be more friendly and get along with everyone? All my life people give me that nonsense. I have and always will challenge people to go outside of their comfort zones. I don't need to be friends with people who have a problem with that. The problem with majority of society is they're too complacent. I can respect you as a person. and I'm doing so by questioning your behavior.
Anyways, answer that question how you want.. but we all ready know the answer to why you and anyone else in this generation starts smoking.. and it's not because it tastes good. IT's because you believe it'll make you look more mature and fit into social circles.. once you develop the habit of smoking you'll go out of your way to justify it even though it defies any form of logic or rationality.
I love to smoke, but its like a bug that bites you. WenI startedI was like yeah Ill only smoke here and there. Just like whenI started to gauge my ears, I was like yeah Ill just put them up to like a 2 and be happy. That didn't last. I got them up to 3/4th and I finally knocked it off after i blew my left ear out. Its much easier to quit gauging my ears that to quit smoking. I dont encourage youngsters or even people older than I to start smoking haha. It gets expensive and people give you crap for it. But I dont care, I go rite along with smoking. Its what I do. Big plus, My non smoking girlfriend dont mind it at all =D
Ooh and I thought I'd treat myself to a nice Zippo...arrived in the post yesterday :)

Nice lighter Tofu. I've been carrying a Zippo for 20 years or so. Belonged to my Dad. I live in windy Kansas and its great to be able to light up in the wind when all the smokers with butane lighters struggle to get lit.

how do you know it was a fake cough? One of the rudest things anybody can do is smoke around somebody who doesn't want you smoking around them. You're polluting their air space. And it's not right to expect them to leave when you're the one who introducing the pollution. you do know that smoking and second hand smoke contributes directly to many of the allergy probables people face in our society.

You do know that cigarette taxes pay for the govt provided health insurance for poor kids, right? And yet, we get no love.
My state collects over $250 million from cigs every year. And we only have approx 2 million people in our state. Now our governor wants to jack up the tax another 50 or 60 cents a pack. I'm going to start driving down to Oklahoma to buy my smokes. Not to save any money, but rather just to deny these ungrateful politicians my tax money.

Matte red to be precise, it is one of my most prized possessions. Got it from my dad as a "reward" for getting into college.I have before, but it's in my best interest not to, so I never made a habit of it. I have asthma, and my family has a history of heart disease.
Also, my grandma spend 15 years on oxygen and just died last year from lung cancer. Pretty good motivation not to if you ask me.
I don't smoke. I hate it when smokers light a cigarette around me, for example, while I'm waiting for the bus. No manners, Christ.super_mario_128How do they possibly know that your a non smoker? I was 11 when I started smoking. So I didn't really have a circle to try to fit into since I was the first person in my grade to start smoking. My best friend is 1 year older than me and he stole some from his Dad. That's how I started smoking. At the time I had no clue how bad it was for you. Actually, I started smoking not because of peer pressure or looking cool, but I just wanted to try it once. And you know what... it DID taste good, and I enjoyed the lil' head rush you get from your first few ciggies. Then it was just habit, but not one I consider 'bad' at that. To be frank, I find people with horrid table manners worse than smokers.
I like smoking. I don't do it myself but it certainly helps the human race win a few more Darwin awards. Since natural selection has been defeated by our dedication to keeping every human alive, the gene pools are not being thinned out by Survival of the Fittest... thus humanity is slowly DE-volving. smoking is one of the few things that will keep us progressing. keep at it smokers =)metroid_dragon
Isn't it ironic that they use the taxes from smokers to facilitate the defeat of the natural selection process? You know, they use the taxes from cigarettes to pay for all sorts of social programs. My personal favorite is providing health insurance to poor children. I mean, lets face it, being poor would be a much more challenging, and gene-pool-thinning experience if it weren't for all the social safety net.
So, while us smokers may be doing our part to thin the herd, so to speak, the government is defeating our efforts by taxing the crap out of our habit and spending it to keep some weaker members of the herd alive.
I don't smoke. But I like the idea of smoking. I have quite a few smoker friends and it's not an issue. I quite like the smell. But I choose not to, because of 1) health 2) money 3) parents.

Smokers selflessly volunteering to die to strengthen the gene pool? There's an argument you don't hear from the tobacco lobby every day. :P Still, I see what you mean about the self-defeating taxation system. Why not deny smokers healthcare to really thin out the pack and enrich the nation? It's a pretty warped idea, and if you're associating poverty with weakness (bad genes?), the negative correlation between smoking prevalence and wealth would put smokers in a double risk group of being singled out for extinction. We could even impose a mega tax on tobacco to drive smokers further into poverty and hasten their contribution to the genetic enrichment of the species, if that whole argument weren't fundamentally flawed and totally sick. Please Log In to post.
