It is called the world cup...it will be over soon, and things will be back to normalrawsavon
Ha yeah, unfortunately. If US is more into soccer it will definitely generate more revenue for everyone involve. US could potentially become the biggest market for soccer if Americans are more into it
[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"]That is because the United States doesn't totally suck now. We can actually beat people!KG86
I think this cup you guys have its weakest team fielded in a good while. I seriously doubt you will get out of the group stage.
Aside from England have you actually seen the teams in our pool play?[QUOTE="rawsavon"]It is called the world cup...it will be over soon, and things will be back to normalariz3260

We could be (outside of China), but they have predicted the rise of soccer here for like 50 + years. -the same thing always happens: a small rise in popularity (due to either the world cup or some over the hill star coming here), a league forms, attendance drops, league folds, rinse and repeat[QUOTE="rawsavon"]It is called the world cup...it will be over soon, and things will be back to normalariz3260

That's why America will never be as big of a market for football as anywhere else lol.[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"]That is because the United States doesn't totally suck now. We can actually beat people!KG86

Stop it. That's not what the media has led us to believe!Because people who think baseball is boring don't know how to play baseball. The only thing i dont understand about Americans is how the most boring sport in the world, baseball, is more popular than soccer.

But it's boring to watch, making it boring. :P
here in Australia, Soccer is and will always be the least popular sport around.......
As long as Rugby league, Union and AFL remain (which they will), Soccer will always be unpopular. (but the Socceroo's are decent for a nation that rejects soccer)

BAseball is very boring.... Even Cricket is much more exciting then baseball
Meh, i don't care for the game at all. However, hockey in my opinion has seen a huge rise in popularity around the US (thank you Olympics), especially here in Chicago where the Blackhawks have decided to come out from under their rock and play again.

Still disagree. It's very exciting to watch, at least in person. I didn't say you have to be good, only know how to play. There are an infinite number of situations and you have to know what to do instantly in any one of them at any point in any game; how is that boring?Football (What you Yanks call Soccer) Has always been the best and most popular sport in the world.. Shadowhawk000Easy on the stereotypes, buddy.

Ironically, the origin of the word soccer came from England.

soccer is terrible, its fun to play but terrible to watch, I don't get into it at all, I wouldn't care if the US had the best team in the world, its still dumb, and baseball is boring as hell as well, baseball is never exciting to watch. American Football (NFL) is where it is at, and hockey is sweet too. Oh ya and lacrosseKeredsBlazeDid you know that a football (American) averages 8-12 minutes of actual play time in a game? Now how is that "where it is at?" You sit in front of the tv for 3 hours, for 8-12 minutes of sport.
However i can agree with Hockey.
football is a world sport. thats why its so good. american football couldn't have a world cup because no one else plays it. the game looks simple to a casual (guys kicking a ball around) but once you really look at a pitch live you realize how much tactics play a part in the game. thats why americans hate it, they just see guys kicking a ball around.
[QUOTE="Serraph105"]Made Fun of? Football is the most influential sport in the world. lol possibly but in America we generally don't treat it that way. We kind of think of it as a ***** (think of a cat) sport.I think it's level of being made fun of has gone down. That doesn't mean its more popular though.

America hate it because they are ADD and can only be entertained if there is constant scoring, or someone being hit.[QUOTE="bokiloki"]

Before you get your panties in a bunch note that I am American.
I thought that was a very amusing and valid point.I thought that was a very amusing and valid point.fooZar777
I'd disagree, but people are entitled to opinions about anything though, including soccer and american football. One funny thing is that people think Americans like football with the "mindless action" yet complain about the "stoppage time" which coaches and players use to decide on what plays to use and such. But this isn't about American football. This is about "the world game", which i also love.

Don't be so offensive please, it's hurting my feelings when you say stuff like that.
Sorry about that. I edited it to make it look like it wasn't to demean you (i wasn't finished with the post either). But i was abit offended and disagreed with the poster you agreed with. Association Football vs American Football arguments can get very serious on the net and as a rare to find fan that is a fan of both, and it can make me facepalm about it at times.
Here are some fun facts. Soccer in the US is ranked 11th among the 12 major sports. Heres the order:
Of course this is a rough estimate as popularity isn't an exact science. The NBA and MLB are very close. The MLB has history and significant head start. The NBA has been better marketed and run as of late. MLB as been steadily shrinking as they struggle amongst younger viewership. Source: Sports Ranks
