Its really fun looking back at where i grew up, where i went to school, where my first girlfriend lived ( not a stalker btw ) and seeing how much has changed and how little has changed in different areas.

I just wish it was clearer and more up to date. Some of the imagery is up to 5 years old and any distance from a major city the quality is almost unbearable. It is free after all.

I just want better clarity and more recent images. The way google earth works you might have half of an area be from 2008 and the other half from 2 years before that.

I would almost pay for something better, everything ive seen though that is better, is intended for corporations and costs a prohibitive amount of money.

Google maps yeah. Does Google earth even have a purpose anymore? It's its own program but you can just do the same thing in google maps in satellite view.

It's good being that it's free. But I know what you mean about the old information...

Google Earth has more functions such as topography and ever increasing amount of accurate 3d building models among other things.

Im not sure what GMaps has compared to GEarth. I know in earth you can setup a custom flight plan and run a crappy plane sim and whatnot.

Not much. I only use it to keep tabs on my girlfriend.

How does that work considering most of the imagery is at least a year or more old?

I like going to Google Earth and using Street View in my old haunts. Of course, some of the places I used to hang out in the 80's aren't there anymore, but the house I spent the first 19 years of my life in is still there, just repainted.

I'll use street view and 'drive' some of my old routes, like the old school bus route. Ahhh...memories.

Cool places to look include Chernobyl and Pripyat (you can see the power station and ruins, like sunken ships and old buildings), and also California City (the 3rd largest city in California, but only 12,000 people live there).

Supposedly they can zoom in on the face of a penny on a sidewalk. 8) And they're live unlike the google ones that have to be like 2 years old.
