I go to UofT majoring in politics and history....go now. Stay away from scarborough and jane and finch it IS Canada's Compton, Missisauga, Oakville, Ajax are nice areas with reasonable costs.

Jane and Finich is that bad? Is it like East Hastings in Vancouver bad? Is Jane and Finch like that bad or what. East Hastings is just a lot of drug addicts and there's gang murders here everyday.

Not even close to that bad  and its far from Canada's Compton. Surely not the best place to live but Compton is on some next stuff. Areas like compton have more shootings and killings annually then all of Canada does annually. Anyway id recommend U of T. If i get in we could hang out:o

I live in LA. You're making a mistake if you go to USC.

UCLA is in a better area (Westwood>>>>>>South Central, both in things to do and general safety...you don't have to worry when walking down the street about getting shanked). UCLA is also cheaper and a better school.

Panzer-schreck

This. UCLA is in a nicer neighborhood and is closer to Hollywood and all the major streets like Hollywood BLVD, Santa Monica BLVD and Sunset BLVD... plenty to do there.

[QUOTE="Toriko42"][QUOTE="AHUGECAT"]

Los Angeles is a third world dump.

AHUGECAT

Care to say why

- Non-stop ghettos. Los Angeles has the worst ghettos in America/Canada. Compton, Watts and East L.A. makes even Detroit or Harlem look like paradises.

- Gangs. Crips, Bloods, MS-13, etc. etc. were all born in Los Angeles.

- Tons of illegal immigrants. Tons. If you do not speak Spanish, you do not belong here.

- Big gap between rich and poor, almost no middle class (except a few areas in the Valley like Reseda, Canoga Park and Encino). You're either super poor or super rich.

- Smog you can cut with a knife (though has gotten better).

- Tons of traffic, you cannot understand how bad it gets. If you are supposed to be somewhere at say, 8 AM, leave 2 hours before.

To be honest though L.A. is better than what it was 10-20 years ago, but still has a lot to improve. Downtown is actually becoming OK (though still way too ghetto and trashy), and places around it like Echo Park and Silver Lake are actually livable now. Even infamous cities such as Compton and Southgate have significantly lower crime rates.

I highly agree, it's like your living in h3ll.

Visited both cities on multiple occasion (Toronto way too many times). Personally, aside from the cold weather, I'd say Toronto is a much better place. California is all about San Diego my man.

Jeez, I've never heard natives of an area talk so poorly of it before, but I've heard such great things. Sigh :( I was really considering USC but now I don't know. I really wanted to move to America for a bit to see what life is like on the other side.

There are a lot of other better cities around LA. I leave in LA county and the place is really good. I don't want to give out too much about my location though. LA city itself is too crowded. Even though places around Hollywood is high end and safe, but, it is just too crowded. Not fun at all. The best would be Irvine. Very little traffic and nice houses, but my bro doesn't like it because it is to quiet. Anyway, it is too far for school. I recommend somewhere after 710 and 10 Freeway. Or going south 110 and 105. Don't get too close to down town.

I'd live on Campus for the first two years and if I was to rent I'd rent close to campus so I don't think traffic is a huge issue. Getting mugged by gangsters is though, I've been mistaken for Latino many times though and I wear bandanas around my neck which I know it bad. I'd stop doing that in LA but I've heard of bad things.

UCLA is a better school but it's also super selective and to my knowledge you need SATs.

Yeah, bite the bullet and pay a few bucks for the SAT test. Most colleges require SATs...I didn't know USC didn't. Guess you can get by the private school system without them and just ACTs. You're right about it being super-selective, though. If you're ultimately choosing between SC and Toronto, just go to Toronto. But honestly, you should at least try for UCLA if you're an above average student. Or maybe go for Santa Monica City College for a couple years, kick ass, and transfer to UCLA.

I have a 4.0 GPA and I think I want to shoot for the SATs but I just don't know if I can do well on them. I wrote a PSAT and I only got 1700 which is terrible, I aced everything but the math since I didn't do much of the math at that point. I found a great program at USC which is really tailored for me. Also USC doesn't require any standardized tests for Canadian students. It appeals to me for that reason

Thanks for your help guys, I've taken all the advice to heart With that said though, my first choice for university is a program at USC which is a business program with an emphasis on cinematic arts. It's one of those programs offered at few schools so I'm aiming for it. Thanks though :) Hopefully I'll be in LA in a couple years.
