[QUOTE="xaos"][QUOTE="markop2003"]Nope... if you really have to go into debt get a mortgage or a loan, markop2003Good luck doing so without a credit history Those starter and credit builder credit cards have even worse rates than the regular ones. Also the limit on them is so low that it's utterly pointless getting one for actually borrowing money you don't have.Pay your balance on them on time and the interest rate is irrelevant.

Is there any trick to help build a good credit score through paying off your credit card bill a certain way? That may sound odd but I thought I read something online that said you can't just pay off whatever you spent every month. You have to leave a small balance or something...? Idk. Any of that sound logical? :P

No, what you don't want to do is cancel your credit card accounts. That will negatively affect your credit score. Maxing out all of your credit cards also negatively affects your score. So long as you have less debt to credit, your credit score will gradually improve.
Exactly right. I actually just got a third credt card (cash back card, 0% interest for the first year, no annual fee--couldn't pass that deal up) and right after I got a credit increase on one of my other cards now that I have more credit.
The only reason to use a credit card is to carefully manage it to get the best credit score possible for large loans in the future.
For things other than a house, and maybe a car (I'd pay the full amount upfront even for cars though) you should just pay with what you have. If you can't, then that's a good sign that you're not managing your money correctly and the credit card is probably not a good long term solution.
[QUOTE="Dogswithguns"]Me.. I owed debit cards about $3000 and I haven't been able to pay for years now. and I just got laid off too.. Im gonna have to pay em off one day, no more dam credit cards after that for sure.. I never gonna be able to pay em off it seems. Plz people don't ever use credit cards.hadokenyeah me too im cutting mine in half after it gets paid off, ive forgotten the feeling of getting a paycheck and being able to spend it on whatever I damn well please. but nope its going to have to go straight into my credit card. and for ppl asking, I bought a couple car parts that were around $500 each, I bought a laptop, and the rest is gas from my car since it runs out so fast So you just spent 4k you didn't have. The idea is to pay it off at the end of the month. I just look at mine as a faster alternative to cash. However our Visa is set up with Navy Federal so that it just comes right out of the account. So thats basically what it is.
NOPE, can't be average and live extravagantly without credit, but the entire point of credit is to give people an unrealistic amount of credit that will trap the holderin a cycle of compiling interest they'll never be able to pay off. You know people are gonna be stupid and spend more than they can pay back on time.
nope, i dont have a credit card and i cant think of a single instance where i would need to accept one of the offers that frequents my mail box. i live well below my means.

When I was younger I got into pretty bad credit card debt. I wish I could say, "I didn't know better" or something like that, but I was very young and living on my own and I would sometimes use credit cards knowing full well I wouldn't be able to pay it back for some time. (I mean situations where it was literally either use the card or not eat for a few days).
It took a long time (years and years and years) but I finally have EVERYTHING paid off (including our two cars). I'm in the process now of repairing my formerly terrible credit.

There is someway that debit cards can be abused whereas most credit cards have good fraud protection. Debit cards basically link to your bank account which is alittle more risky IMO.EasyStreet

Plus credit card has better protection then check cards against fraud. i am responsible for the first 35$ in case of fraud, the rest the bank must reimburse me for.....For Credit Card it is $0 and no fighting them like you have to with banks. I had my bank hacked and didn't even know about it, they caught it and froze my card when some one tried to use it. All I had to was call to get another credit card.[QUOTE="EasyStreet"][QUOTE="sonicare"] I'm not that familiar with check cards.
