I'm not much of an anime guy, but this show has some pretty freakin good writing, even amongst other psychological thrillers. The character developement and overall flow are superb, same goes for the voice acting. And the themes that are covered bring up a lot of stuff that should have been covered in my psych/social/philo classes when I was in college.
I sometimes forget that I'm watching a cartoon.

I read the manga, and yes, it's definitely amazing. You should read Pluto and 20th Century Boys, they are both by the same artist

Not my cup of anime tea. Found it very depressing.

Yes, it is one that I thoroughly enjoyed. I've only watched the anime, but I've heard that it's practically identical to the manga. The opening and first ending (although the second one didn't bother me as much as everybody else) are absolutely amazing.

I was incredibly shocked when it got a TV deal. Especially on the science fiction channel seeing as Monster really is about as far from being science fiction as anything gets. =P

It was very interesting but depressing. When I start watching happy anime shows I'll continue with Monster.

That's where I caught one of the episodes and I thought, damn, that's something else. Then I went online and me and my roommate went through 15 episodes the next day..

I found it very confusing. Or rather lacking in details. Were never told what was actually done to the kids at 511 Kinderheim. And Johan seems too supernatural, being able to manipulate anyone he wants. And EVERYONE Tenma encounters turns out to have something to do with Johan.

But I agree, the anime was very creepy and I sometimes forgot I was watching an anime.

20th Century Boys was pretty mediocre, tons of mystery cliches to add a false sense of depth? Yawn.

I haven't read the other two, but I doubt that I ever will.

I tend to notice to like to hate everything (especially when you went by Yandere)

No, I just criticize things a lot because it entertains me.

Pointing out the negatives of something and discussing it is far more entertaining than talking about something that I actually enjoy.

I don't understand why it's being tagged as depressing.
If it's being compard to those cotton-candy horny teen animes, then I guess so, but if you take it out of the anime genre and put it amongst psycho thrillers, where it belongs, then its not.
