Heres my thoughts...well...i loved it
SaintLeonidas
I can tell;) Does anyone though think it depicted Persians in a bad fashion though?
it was very average in my opinion, i thought the action sequences though cool and intense were sloppily done, also was not a fan of how they played heavy metal through some parts, sure its a fantasy movie and all and they were trying to capture the moment but it just didnt do it for me, i also thought the plot was somewhat thin. for how hyped it was, especially around here, i felt it let down a bit.g-unit248
Really? Thats too bad. I actually thought it was great how they put all the fantasy in there instead of trying to make it overly real.

I agree. Since it was more or less a true story anyway.

in most war movies the enemy is portraited badly, mostly because we are cheering for the good side.
Haven't seen it yet. Probably going to see it this week..no rush (that, and I haven't been able to get a ride to go see it since the film came out :?..my luck sucks).princemarth23save up for Grindhouse then...that movie is going to rock.

That is why this movie is political.

every movie like this is political but not meant to be. Some say bush in leonidas standing for victory, others say bush is xerxes trying to conquer the world. Well that can be done with other movie also. Its a victim of the times.

True but in that since the Persians were the enemy, because they were the conquerors.

Yes, I don't see how anyone, even Iranians could see them as the "good guys".

i wouldn't say it's political but just controversial. like the passion of the christ and the way they portrayed the Jews. same thing here.Who do you think the good side is?
bacon_is_sweet
I do not accept the concept of "good and evil". There were merely sides.

So you would consider the goals of both the Persians and Greeks morally on par with one another?

which would you want to be on, the ones being controlled by a guy who thought he was a god and destroyed cities and villages to gain total dominance, or be someone from a free greek state, fighting to protect his home from an army that wanted your city, and wanted your submission.
i mean obviously the iranians would get mad, it reminded them that they got there arses wiped by a small group, then would end up losing the war.SaintLeonidas
 Ya, I would have liked to see the final battle though.

You're taking the movie to be an accurate portrayal of history. This is wrong.

its was. Ive read books on it. Ever read gates of fire? a very accurate book on the battle. The battle wass 7000 vs 500,000+. The persians were invading, hoping to take over greece, the spartans and other greek stood againest him, lost, but the greeks went on to win. The movies plot of the battle is correct, its just the numbers, and side stories, and creatures that make it different.
I heard mixed reviews about it. Some liked it and others didn't. Devouring_One
its definetly one of those movies.

Yes but the movie portrays Xerxes to be some evil dictator hell bent on enslaving the world, and the Spartans to be fighting for "democracy" and "freedom".
The Persians went to war for religious reasons. They were trying to unite everyone under their banner to help Ahura-Mazda (a "Good" god) to fight Ahriman (a "Bad" god). This may not be justifiable in a modern sense, but at the time it was a well-supported cause. The Greek idea of freedom was the independence and autocracy of the "polis" or city-state. Spartans weren't fighting to avoid being enslaved and forced into labor camps or anything like that, they were fighting for the right to self-government.

the persian were enforcing there will on people. They conquered towns and made the people worship there beliefs, which is wrong. They burned cities that wouldnt submit to there will. Yes the greeks were fighting for there govenrmental freedom which the persians were trying to take away. This proves that the persians were in the wrong, no one should ever be forced to beleive something they dont. So the greeks stood and fought for there freedom.
