- It looks like the pre-order process worked out very nicely for Apple. Today the company announced that the iPad sold over 300,000 units on its first day, which includes both pre-ordered and store-bought units as well as units shipped to 'channel partners' (aka Best Buy).
Additionally, the App Store sold over 1 million apps, while the iBookstore delivered over 250,000 ebooks to iPad users on the first day. Naturally, Apple CEO Steve Jobs is excited. "It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world—it's going to be a game changer," he said. "iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad."
It's certainly a successful launch as far as sales go - it beat out the original iPhone's first day sales by over 30,000 units - but the real question is, can Apple sustain this kind of demand through the year?
