No, not a joke post. The link Xaos posted tells why pretty briefly. Everyone who thinks what I said is stupid or wrong shouldn't act like they know anything about history that involves the Roman Church or Christianity as a whole. I totally meant what I said.

JudgementEden

Uhh... I'm not looking back at the thread, but didn't Xaos link to a Chick Tract?

Yes, he did in fact, everyone seems to be ignoring the link though. That will tell everyone why I believe Catholics are not Christian, in a nut shell anyway.

Then you are not using the definition of Christian in a nut shell anyway.

Maybe I missed this because I am not following the thread too closely, but what facts have you presented for your case?

I dont point out hard facts unless someone else does so. Otherwise I just waste my time. Like Xaos apparently did posting that Chick Tract.

Fact: There are people still alive who would thank Pius XII for their lives. Fact: There are people who will remember when PJP II was ordained pope. Fact: Just because you say a list is inaccurate doesnt mean it is.

Yes, I realize that, however what that specific tract says is nonetheless, the truth. Not to mention it is historically backed. Last time I checked, you dont even believe in a religion, so why do you care?

I'm not sure what that has to do with "Apostolic Succession". Just because you believe that list is undeniably true, doesn't mean it is.

Jack Chick has zero credibility. He's a nutjob fundie and a conspiracy theorist. He has on his website. stuff by Kent Hovind and by people who think that Dungeons and Dragons is a satanic activity. Why is it good and can be trusted? Because you agree with it?

Several different groups. I believe the Apostles called themselves Evangelists.

What, just because YOU dont believe in that stuff Jack has zero credibility? Wow, how close minded. You have no proof for the contrary and you have the nerve to say he's wrong. So he's fundamentalist, so what. A conspiracy theorist huh? So am I, most of what I believe are not theories by the way. Kent Hovind actually knew a lot of what he was talking about as well. Do you have proof that Dungeons and Dragons (The board game) is NOT satanic? All im seeing right now is someone flapping their gums about their own opinions, these aren't facts.

I never said people who play the game are Satanists, way to misinterpret. I also never said it was Satanic either, I was strictly in a neutral position. It's funny though how people can laugh things off without actually taking anything seriously.

I don't even play the game, and it's obvious Jack Chick doesn't have a clue how it works - Portrays players shunning a player who's character was killed. No mention of healing or resurrecting the dead character, or letting the player make a new character, just "you don't exist, get lost." And then player commits suicide over it. That is ridiculous. That's not just misrepresenting the game's players, that's a loose grasp on reality.

Yes, a person who follows the Catholic beliefs is a Christian. They might have some things wrong (according to the teachings in the Bible), but many of them aren't major flaws.

Also, Mormons aren't Christian, as they believe you get to Heaven through good works alone, which goes against the core principles in the Bible.

You would be correct. Of course, I wouldn't call it MY definition. More the Bible. If you REALLY speak with Catholics they will take what a Catechism says over anything in the Bible. So, yes, in short it is their beliefs and practices. In order to consider yourself Christian, you have to use the Bible as a guideline, Catholics dont for the most part.

That is NOT true in the least. Catholics use the Bible. The sacraments Catholics practice are found in the Bible. The prayers are found in the Bible.

As for that link...how one worships is not the definition of what a Christian is but what they believe. Catholics were called Christians way before they were called Catholics. /thread.

The sacraments are not in the Bible, just misinterpretations. I think the Bible would beg to differ on the issues of worship, it may be a small matter to most, but not God.

Wrong. Jesus was baptized. Jesus celebrated the last supper etc. He also called his apostles to spread the word. Those are not misinterpretations. From your posts I have concluded that you are unfamiliar with Catholicism.

[QUOTE="JudgementEden"]The sacraments are not in the Bible, just misinterpretations. I think the Bible would beg to differ on the issues of worship, it may be a small matter to most, but not God.LJS9502_basic

Wrong. Jesus was baptized. Jesus celebrated the last supper etc. He also called his apostles to spread the word. Those are not misinterpretations. From your posts I have concluded that you are unfamiliar with Catholicism.

Well, yeah, of course he was baptized. He performed communion, the apostles spread the Gospel. But Christians dont call them sacraments. It's also funny how you mentioned the ones found in the Bible but haven't mentioned the ones that are CLEARLY not there. I barely said anything about Catholicism, I know a lot about it. I just haven't said much here. There's really not much to get. It's not like the religion is complicated, I guess in some ways it is though.

Oh no. You have demonstrated your knowledge here. Anyway...what? There are only seven sacraments and if it wasn't getting late I'd dig out where they all come from. Catholics did get the sacraments from the bible. No fear there.

I'm a little confused - if Catholics perform all these things mentioned in the Bible, then don't they meet the minimum set of conditions to be called Christians? :?

Here, this is a site I have learned a lot from. You guys can take it or leave it. I have studied a lot over the last few years and this site explains it best.

[QUOTE="Theokhoth"]Tell your history-deprived friends that there used to be a time when the word "Catholicism" didn't exist because it WAS Christianity. Of course Catholics are Christians.

agreed at the post above. your friends are probably one of those know-it-all types. they need to do more research. and tell them to stop dissing other people's beliefs since they couldn't prove anything anyway.

 I like the babylon bit, esp. since the "proof" is just speculation. The fish thing is supposed to be Ichtous or jesus christ. I've heard alot of alternate theories about the fish, including it was supposed to be mary's womb O.o

Many but not all Catholics are Christians. Now do not get me wrong, as a Baptist I'm also willing to say that not all Baptists are Christians. Just because one claims the Christian faith or event attends the religious ceremonies, does not mean one is actually a follower of Jesus Christ. However, there are some tendencies within Catholicism that causes there to be a great deal of religious followers but not true followers.
