I came across this article about Carls Jr, and how they were upping the ante in the food stakes. it seems they have a take no prisoners policy when it comes to creating food products that their customers want. But then again whose responsibility is it to ensure healthy eating of customers? It was also quite telling when the Carls CEO stated, "They think they want a salad, but they order a fries anyway".

Anyway article is here, it's really quite a good read.

FAT PROFIT - You want Onion Rings with that? They're already in the burger - along with bacon, cheese, BBQ sauce, and a corporate philosophy that says to hell with the health police. How a fast food chain is pushing gluttony to new extremes and changing America's attitude towards eating.

They want to make money off of us, not kill use. If they killed us we couldn't buy their food anymore. I eat fastfood maybe once a month personally.

I'd only believe that if:

the Hamburglar was shoving his stolen burgers down my gullet.
we lived in some weird, Orwellian future where the fast food companies decided what we eat.

Maybe the government should hold us by the hand when we cross the street, order food, and make sure we buy the proper toilet paper so we don't get a nasty rash.

They're not trying to kill anyone, they're just giving consumers what they want. Yeah, they're not exactly saving lives with a 2/3 pound double bacon cheeseburger (which, btw, if you've never had it: It's like an orgy in your mouth) but at the same time they're not forcing you to eat it. That's the thing about American food culture: we all like to think that we want to eat healthy food in healthy portions, we know that we should, but when push comes to shove we do the exact opposite. You think that resturants and food chains have been increasing the amount of food you get in your meal because they want to? Hell no. They do it because that's what people want: tons of food. And people don't want a ton of salad, they want a ton of meat, salt, and condiments. Believe me, if companies thought that they could compete with small portions of healthy food then they would because small salads and water are a lot cheaper for companies than enormous hamburger patties and soft drinks.

Companies should be able to sell the worst food imaginable, as long as they don't lie to the public about it. Indviduals in a free society should be able to eat whatever they want.

I agree totally with that. There is something wrong with selling unhealthy food as healthy. That's why I liked what I read about the Carls Jr philosophy in the article. They won't hide the fact that it is unhelathy. Up to you to eat whatever you want.

Personally I won't eat Mcdonalds or BK, it's a crap fest of artificial products. I'll happily eat a REAL burger with REAL beef and cheddar/swiss eating out for dinner once in a while. They should stop calling them beef burgers at the major chains, because they're not.

Will Mad Cows Kill The Big Mac?

http://dir.salon.com/story/news/feature/2001/03/26/mcdonalds/index1.html

"How do you know what's in a hamburger?" she asks. "There's something called 'mechanically recovered meat' and that's a serious, serious problem. It can have spinal cord in it, and that's the infectious part with regard to mad cow disease. People are going to look a little more suspiciously at hamburger, at least in Europe. I don't think most Americans have any idea about recovered meat," she says.

Relax mate. You can keep eating there. I really don't care. All I said is that I don't trust their food. If I need a burger fix, I'll either have one made at home, or I'll go to a nice place and get a proper gourmet burger. Fast food is cheap for a reason. I don't like poor quality products - especially not my food.

I really hate people who blame others for their stupid mistakes. If you get fat by stuffing your face, that's your own fault. No **** all that food is full of fat, why did ANYONE have to tell you that? I ****ing hate the mcdonalds haters that criticized McD's for not having their nutrition info available.. First off, if the nutritional info is really that important to you, why would you eat anything that doesn't have it for you to see? And I thought it was pretty effing obvious the food is not that healthy for you. How many people are too stupid to realize that it is full of fat and other nasty crap? Kids.. I understand.. but an adult? People these days.

Even worse, they want to blow up the world. That's how they'll make the big bucks.

But seriously, this is the real world, not some movie or videogame. How are they supposed to make a profit if they kill the people who buy their products?

No, that's not all you said. You said that their burgers aren't made out of beef, which was a complete and utter lie. Then you claimed that it's made out of every part of the cow, and that article that you posted says no such thing. Now you're pretending like you didn't just say stuff which was completely and utterly untrue.

If fast food is really that bad, I don't see why you have to lie about it in order to make it look bad.

I guess if you don't like it, don't eat it. Order something else if you're more concerned with your health. Or, eat in moderation, don't go overboard. It's funny when I go out and see some people order a ton of food and then turn around and complain about eating healthy etc etc.

As for me, food is food. If I'm hungry, have the money, and it sounds like it will stop the hunger pangs, I'm all for it. Give me a stacked burger anyday.

Quit blaming fast food companies. It's up to the person to decide what they eat. If they choose fatty foods, it's their own fault when the pounds add on. Some people are pretty dumb, sadly

If fast food is really that bad, I don't see why you have to lie about it in order to make it look bad.

I'll highlight my point for you:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/1482140.stm

MRM is meat residue which is left on the carcass after all the prime cuts have been removed.

It is pressure-blasted off the bones by machinery and forms a reddish slurry which resembles mince.

Some companies then use it to bulk up their meat products.

Experts say it is likely that bits of spinal cord - the part of a cow most likely to be contaminated with BSE - could be found in mechanically recovered meat.

So ok sorry I was wrong in a very literal sense. To make you happy, "It's partially made up of left overs from the carcass of the cow. Any remaining part of the entire cow carcass".

That's still not my definition of beef. And again I reiterate - eat as much of it as you like.

Yes, with the "Remaining parts" largely being MEAT. Hmm...if only there were a word for cow meat...

Furthermore, that is nowhere NEAR your original assertion that it includes "every part of the cow". What remains on the bones is meat, nervous tissue, and connective tissue.

Hey, eating a diet consisting solely of iceberg lettuce also results in nutritional deficiencies. Let's ban iceberg lettuce, too.

Hey french fries wouldn't be so unhealthy if they weren't deep fried and then covered in salt. So let's ban cooking oil and salt.

As many have mentioned, like alot of other companies who sell drugs that are toxic, or factories that drop their waste on rivers/creeks, or companies that sell pesticides that are carcinogenic. Some wouldn't mind killing or hurting ppl just to gain his buck and living.

BTW haven't you guys heard of Shawerma ?? I gave up on fast food long ago and Shawerma is in my opinion better and much more healthier.

That's not the point. What could (maybe should?) happen is more control on how food is processed, not the banning of the ingredients themselves.
