While it's possible that you can argue that tastes have been changing (indeed, besides Audrey Hepburn, I can't think of any woman from before the 1960s who would be considered particularly beautiful today), I would suggest that the "statistical" reasons would be a greater access to cosmetic products, greater degree of women's liberties resulting in them participating more in sports, a greater access to information about healthy habits, a much lower rate of disease and illness (especially during childhood and puberty), widespread access to education and hence increased peer-to-peer social contact, much better access to clean & healthy food and of course sexual selection, .etc which have all conspired to make the modern woman more physically attractive than her ancestors.

Also, never forget hotpants and miniskirts, probably two of the greatest things to have ever happened to humanity.

I'd say no. Sure you can go outside and find a pretty looking girl pretty fast, but you can equally find a not so pretty one either. That being said, I don't like judging people on looks but to me it just seems like make-up has become more common and gotten better and girls started using it at earlier and earlier ages while older women have found ways to conceal their ages. You could probably make the same argument that guys are better looking now due to the same reasons.

In reality if you stripped off the make up and plastic surgery and $hit you'd probably find that girls are worse looking. Go back to the 80's or earlier to the 40's and 50's and that's where all the good women were. Not only were they good looking, they would make you a sammich and supper and you never had to worry about if they were going to cheat on you. Girls today are all caught up in partying and who's popular and who isn't and twitter/facebook. Some like this, but most guys I talk to just look at most girls like that as "sex material" and not "relationship material" and many have even gave up on getting into a relationship and would rather just stay single because they can't find a decent girl to actually be with longer than one night at a time.
