Am I the only one who finds it kinda sad that the discussion of the semantic difference between "Indian" and "Native American" has dominated this topic?

That kinda cracks me up. I live on the Olympic Peninsula and have quite a few friends who are from the Tribes and none of them seem to have a problem with term indian. The opposite in fact. they love calling themselves FBI, Full BLooded Indian. the tribes around here, the S'Kallam, Suquamish, and Elwha tribes are really very good at making money and also giving back to the rest of the community as well.

As for the exemption, idk but Im sure they get it. They get some other nice perks too with stuff like fishing and hunting, and land use, and where they fall into the justice system if they commit a crime, and a bunch of other stuff too.

GS just got nothing better to do - no one cares. Same goes for blacks. They don't care between black or African American - hell most probably don't know the difference.

Congress is not exempt from the ACA mandate. But since they get socialized universal healthcare, does it matter?

Don't know why people still use "Indians" as a term. It was proven incorrect hundreds of years ago, and not for politically correct reasons either. Especially now considering people from India are a significantly large part of the current immigration population.

If anything, they are the original Americans.

[QUOTE="Serraph105"]

You can always check for yourself. It does appear that there are special rules, but then again there seem to be a lot of special rules pertaining to Native Americans mostly to make reperations for the fact that we sort of obliterated their tribes and way of life in the past.

Casinos are the new way of life.

That logic never makes sense to me; than why not give all the black people on Martin Luther King Blvd monthly pay checks because America cultivated and raised them like cattle for over 120 years?

The US never signed, and subsequently violated, several treaties with blacks. They did with natives. When treaties are violated reparations are usually made.
