edit: also theres a movie called "The Haunted" that took place in Pittston Pennsyylvania that was based upon a "true story" about a demon haunting a family around here, who my dad actually met before. He actually stayed in the house in question.
I live like 20 minutes from where it happened, and it was on scifi and it scared me.
well Final Destination isnt supposed to be a scary movie. its more like a suspense/thriller type movie
You have to be in the right mind set to watch a horror film, I refuse to see them in theaters anymore because people laugh which ruins the entire thing for me. If your going to pick apart a moviefor every little unrealistic thing, just stay home.
Rec has probs gotta be the scariest movie ive seen in a long time, and i remember Day of the dead creeped me out just a few years back, I saw it and i couldnt sleep all night lol, oh and I suppose Zombieland made me jump a couple of times does that count? Ahh I love that movie
You're not looking in the right places, Hollywood fails at making horror movies, you need to go to the indie horror movies for the good stuff.
Well actually, the only movie to ever really freak me out is actually Paranormal Activity. The movie was just done in such a brilliant way. It is so minimalistic and yet that is what makes it work on such a great level.
I don't see how anyone could not find scenes like this freaky as hell.
Classical Scary is CRAP. True scary is disturbing social issues that don't resolve themselves ever...just a recurring nightmare of never ending hell and rejection...
Scary movies haven't been scary in decades. They're almost always just gorefests. The last horror films to actually BE scary were PG-13 and had to rely on actually being scary instead of a body count.
Rather than the good old fashioned "let's build an atmosphere" approach old horror films used to take, which made the films genuinely scary, we now have this culture of cheap thrills. Meaning, if you have as many jumpy moments as possible and mix with with gore based cum shots. This doesn't make a film scary, but the makers seem to assume that the idea of making a viewer scared by the film as a whole is less important than the big pay off of a single jump. Which it isn't. Horror has become most derivative since the milking dry of the Slasher film really.
I think paranormal activity was the scariest movie I've ever seen, it didn't make me jump out of my seat, but the build up and the things that happened seemed so realistic, it was a extremely well made movie,
So I think the stage for better horror movies is getting there
wat And no, films like The Shining, The Exorcist etc. just aren't made anymore. I haven't seen this Paranormal Activity though, but pretty much every other modern scary film has been awful.Classical Scary is CRAP. True scary is disturbing social issues that don't resolve themselves ever...just a recurring nightmare of never ending hell and rejection...

a bunch of drunk teenagers (with a token black guy) wander into somewhere they arnt supposed to. the black guy dies first, then the blond girl, then the goofy guy then the rest until one girl is left to roundhouse kick the monsters head off in the end. so the answere is no
