If we funded NASA and other space agencies more, we'd likely see more progress.
SpaceX rockets are cool, and they have certainly done a bit to make commercial space industry more accessible, but what have they actually contributed to the betterment of mankind?
Is SpaceX any closer to landing on Mars? Pretty sure NASA has done that a few times with rovers and such.
Is SpaceX doing anything concerning the Moon?
Have they launched anything like the Webb telescope? Hubble?
This is why space travel to me is less important than space exploration. The more we can explore and learn, the better. While there is definitely a time and place to put a human in the seat and send them out there, I just don't think that time is really coming up soon. Like...at all. Space is just too big to make travel sensible. Going to Mars just doesn't make sense right now and it's why the whole SpaceX Starship thing is such a fucking disgrace because we are blowing up all these rockets, each launch releasing more toxic chemicals than a large city does in an entire year, and we aren't really doing anything good.
Launch satellites, launch probes, do more science. Build a base on the moon if you want, that makes a little sense. Get some of that helium 3 I keep reading about, send Sam Rockwell up there to mine it.
