Lately YouTube for some reason has been recommending me videos about space travel. I've been checking on videos of the 1969 moon landing and why they never went back.

Personally I kind of always lean towards the moon landing was fake. Other interesting topics Mars landing, Voyage 1 (still operating in space after 45 years) pale blue dot and many others that's worth looking into.

So is this stuff real or NASA(and other agencies) just being lying to the people of Earth?

it's all fake.

there's no way you can just look up in the sky and see a satellite passing over.

it's an optical illusion, probably created by chemtrails.

@PSP107: Why would they make such an elaborate hoax all these years (60's)? Do spacesuits look real to you or should they look more like a Marvel superhero movie? How about the fact that the Chinese have recently landed, unmanned on the far side of the moon. Real? Mars landings and photos all a hoax,? How about all the super expensive telescopes and shuttles aiming into the sky?

What if I told you Elon Musk is planning to get people to Mars? What are your thoughts on that? Would you say that rocket science doesn't exist? Cause there seem to be a lot of rockets flying, these days.

It's probably all a bit overrated, space travel.

Think about it... Elon Mush - richest man in the world, owns lots of rockets and whatnot... he's *never* been. Not once. Oh sure, does all the ooh-ing and aah-ing whenever one of his space ships doesn't blow up... even says he says he wants to die out there, but that's because there's not much else to do once you're actually up in space. Floating's a laugh, I'll bet, for the first couple of hours, but how long can the novelty of that last? He's got a swimming pool for god's sake. Maybe even several. He can float whenever he wants. Boring.

And so they just fill it up with crap. Blast all your money out there "for defence purposes", where no one can even check. Send your poor astronauts to live on the ISS for months at a time with no flight home. It's a joke. Not worth it. That's why the other aliens haven't bothered, or we'd see them on the telescopes.

"Oooh, but it's full of marvels, Sancho"... - Yeah? What's the most exciting thing you could hope to see? A ****ing "black hole". Jesus. Doesn't that just sound grand. Close your eyes and try to imagine - a thing so dark you can't even see it. Great.

Clue's in the name: "Space". Nothing up there. Waste of time.

I lean towards subatomic particles being fake. Some people who just make up babble and jargon are employed as professors that keep making up more about this type of thing and then charge a lot of money just to teach you the new stuff they made up. Nobody has ever really seen a gluon. A massless particle? Uh yeah right. They're clearly making stuff up. It's a racket!

I don't know. It seems to me that human space travel has stalled greatly.

That said, we made HUGE progress with probes and telescopes. We can see light years away with ease.

I think that there will be huge progress with robots, telescopes and probes, but little progress with actual humans reaching the moon and other planets in our life time.

If we funded NASA and other space agencies more, we'd likely see more progress.

SpaceX rockets are cool, and they have certainly done a bit to make commercial space industry more accessible, but what have they actually contributed to the betterment of mankind?

Is SpaceX any closer to landing on Mars? Pretty sure NASA has done that a few times with rovers and such.

Is SpaceX doing anything concerning the Moon?

Have they launched anything like the Webb telescope? Hubble?

This is why space travel to me is less important than space exploration. The more we can explore and learn, the better. While there is definitely a time and place to put a human in the seat and send them out there, I just don't think that time is really coming up soon. Like...at all. Space is just too big to make travel sensible. Going to Mars just doesn't make sense right now and it's why the whole SpaceX Starship thing is such a fucking disgrace because we are blowing up all these rockets, each launch releasing more toxic chemicals than a large city does in an entire year, and we aren't really doing anything good.

Launch satellites, launch probes, do more science. Build a base on the moon if you want, that makes a little sense. Get some of that helium 3 I keep reading about, send Sam Rockwell up there to mine it.

@mrbojangles25: NASA gave us tons of technological advances that benefit people in every day life, and since it was run by the government, that means the patents they developed belonged to the people, and the research was public, so the new things you could buy to improve your life weren't costing you as much as if the patents were privately owned.

Link

This was one of the strengths of America that kept us in a leadership position in the world, being a respected influence, instead of letting other countries take that position and having more global influence than we did.

Exactly. From Velcro to those shiny emergency blankets, advances in plastics to fuel technology, and all kinds of really awesome stuff.

@mrbojangles25: Even innovations that significantly improved how we made microchips and computers that helped keep us at the forefront.

Hopefully we don't squander our advantages and let others pull ahead.

I think it has a lot to do with German technology, and the engineers we took after WW2. They had advanced rocket knowledge for sure. Also there’s a lot of narratives going on behind the scenes for sure. Narratives we aren’t aware of.

I know this is sarcasm, but my damn dad actually thinks that way. Nothing like needing to sit through one of his conspiracy rants, especially when he looks at the sky and see a plane leaving a trail. Even more depressing trying to convince him how little sense it makes..>.>

On topic: I feel that we have gone to space. I would never doubt that. But we are a long ways from being able to effectively EXPLORE space, which I feel should be much more important than simply reaching it...

BTW, the way I feel about this topic is that it would be too elaborate a hoax, for it all to be fake. From the engineers to the astronauts to space command, the visible rocket itself?? All made in a Hollywood basement like that one Red Hot Chili Peppers song??

@SOedipus: you think so?? Weren’t we just doing radio free Europe, a war against the Soviets in Afghanistan, and bankrupting the Soviet government by outspending them in nuclear weapons and such things as ICBMs??

Do people truly believe that space doesn't exist? Like truly? Even if the moon landing was faked that doesn't mean travelling outside of our atmoshpere is an impossibility. Do those of you that are skeptics about space ever wonder why tens of thousands of people all over the world would keep quiet if they knew their field of study was a complete hoax? Come on.. there are always whistle blowers. Still, after considering everything, common sense goes a long way. Plenty of humans (even some non humans.. lol) have been in space. On the moon? Maybe, maybe not.

"And why we never went back"?

I'm all for discussion on this topic but when someone displays such an alarming amount of ignorance on the topic they're intending to discuss without the intention to even do the most simple amount of research, the thread might as well be locked.

Didn't Voyager just become the first "extrasolar" manmade object not too long ago?

*Actually yes it did. NASA has a pretty great website that tracks all the stuff in (and out) of our solar system, including spacecraft.

Because there is evidence of them being on the moon. It's really fucking simple. Those who doubt or "know" that they weren't on the moon just doesn't know how the world works but for some reason wants to have opinions anyway. To completely ignore evidence of something and come up with something else from your ass, you can only be stupid.

Actual exploration is a tough one for humans. Distances are just too monstrous to do anything much with humans, at least for now.

We should continue to let the robots to most of the heavy lifting.

LOL I was just scanning this and forgot the topic and saw Voyager and thought it was the Star Trek thread. If we have to spend money on space, I'd rather fund NASA than give SpaceX money.

Yup, the whole "fake moon landing thing" is a fun idea when given a tiny bit leeway, but ultimately if anyone takes it serious, it is a sign of conspiracy brain rot.

We landed on the moon. Multiple times. There is proof. If you* don't want to believe it, or if you want to keep moving the goalpost of what counts as proof, or if it is easier for you to believe conspiracy theories, then that's a "you" problem and please don't make it my problem.

It's also kind of a gateway drug to other conspiracy theories; next thing you know, you believe in lizard people, flat earth, and Jews running the world.

Or in a pocket dimension in a locker that's in an alien mass transit station.

Because you need to be a special kind of brain-rot r****d to base your source of truth on youtube comments or tiktok videos. Go buy some telescope, read a few astronomy forums, visit the Space Center in Florida. There are several sciences dedicated to space, you know. If you spend some time to actually study the subject instead of creating idiotic threads and ask casual people for proof. Go get to the specialized astronomy forum and ask for proof there, and get insulted by smarter people than us. Astronomy is not a casual science, it has an extremely high learning curve.

What kind of stupid title is this: Space travel is a hoax.

Several countries are literally spending billion of dollars on metal tubes full of fuel, 30-store high, and launch them into the sky for what? For lulz?

Or satellite tv, internet or phones?

Or the fact that the earth is flying in space and the universe is constantly expanding?

Just because it's hard to comprehend with your tik tok brain doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Do you believe that 2+2 is 4 at least. Do you believe in math or physics?
