I know people that worry about EVERYTHING. And I get that we all have issues and what not. But some people worry about everything, their jobs, their finances, their girlfriends, their parents, their parents' jobs, their girlfriends jobs, etc and it just goes on until they're losing sleep worrying about their 3rd cousin twice removed and have a head of grey hair at age 23.

I rarely ever worry. About anything. I learned at a relatively young age to have a simple outlook on life. It eliminates virtually all worries, and it works. First, you have to assume that there are only two kinds of problems in the world.

Those you CAN solve, and those you CANT solve.

Now there's no sense worrying about the ones you CAN solve, right? (Since you CAN solve them, they arent really problems!)

There's also no point worrying about the ones you CANT solve. ( If you could solve them, they wouldnt be problems anyway, but since you CANT solve them, why worry about them?)

Do you worry a lot?

Constant? No, but there are definitely things I'm concerned about.

There's really no point in worrying about things you can't change. Things within your power, though, are fair-game.

Yeah, it's horrible. I don't worry about problems I can solve, I just dwell on the problems that are out of my control. I lose so much sleep over it, I'm up for hours just tossing and turning. I've been like that since I was a kid, my mother and grandmother are the same way. It's probably a genetic trait. I wouldn't want his bald head, but I think I'd kill for my dad's carefree attitude.

Nah, I don't worry about anythng. Most stuff people complain and worry about, I find totally stupid and pointless. If anything did make me feel worried, I would think rationally about it and let it ride itself.

And as you pointed out, I would try to solve any issue I feel I can solve, but if I can't solve something, I just shrug it off. Whats the point of harping on it if its out of your control? :P

Not really. I do worry about some things but it's not constant. If I can't do anything I mostly just hope that it turns out okay and try to forget about it.

Everyone worries... Its called anxiety...

Only a problem if it is severe enough to actually prevent you from doing things because you worry too much (could have an anxiety disorder like social anxiety disorder)... I hear beta blockers can help... Like you can pop one before you are about to give a speech or go into some kind of socially compromising situation... Make you kind of chill and lower your heart rate...

Hmmm, I wouldn't say constant, I used to be a lot worse, but they're 2-3 things I tend to worry about frequently. And then there are other things that I fixate and complain to myself about alot, that I can't change, however those are far from worries.

I worry a lot in some tough situations. Like our defense in thesis. Not being able to submit int deadline. Those things makes me worry. But one thing i do to overcome it is to pray and ask for God's help. I also believe that worrying can never do anything, it will only give me stress so I ask for God's help to cast out my worries whether it is big or not.

Do you worry a lot?

Allicrombie

I mean...yes and no.

My life kind of sucks right now, and recent developments could make it a whole lot worse, so yes I worry. On the other hand, as someone else said, there's not a whole lot of point worrying about stuff that one can't do anything else. I worry about a lot of stuff often. But sometimes I just need a break from worrying. In those cases, I'm just like, "well...not much I can do right now aside from sitting around worrying. So...**** it. Right now I'd be better off just having a few drinks and watching a movie, and forgetting about all that other stuff."

Yes, sometimes worrying helps and sometimes it doesn't. In the cases in which worrying DOESN'T help, it doesn't make much sense to worry since all that accomplishes is making me feel bad. Granted, that kind of logical assessment isn't always enough to STOP me from worrying. But I do make an attempt to not worry so much about the things that are out of my control. That attempt isn't always successful, but I usually at least try.

In any case, even when I am worried, I usually try to keep that to myself. I've met people who are always talking about how they are worried, and they're really no fun to be around. Seriously, they're almost as bad (and in some cases even worse) than the people who are always complaining about how everything sucks. Don't get me wrong...I'm not advocating covering up all of life's problems with smiles and cupcakes. I'm just saying that some people really need to grow a pair and stop acting like everything revolves around them. Seriously, EVERYONE has problems, but I'd prefer to surround myself with people who aren't constantly making the discussion revolve around their own worries and annoyances. I understand that it's important to vent. But if one needs to vent, then it's probably more important to not make me want to ****ing avoid him/her. After all, if I'm constantly avoiding someone because they worry and complain too much, then that obviously makes it a hell of a lot harder for for them to share their worries and complaints with me.

Everyone has worries and complaint and needs to vent sometimes. Yes, I understand that. However, that's all the more reason to pick and choose what to worry and complain about. We ALL have worries and complaints. And me listening to someone else's worries and complaintsa is sort of them making their problem MY problem. And...why would I want that, considering that I've already got enough problems of my own? I'll put up with a certain degree of worrying and complaining, but when people go way overboard and do that **** ALL THE TIME, then it's usually simply not worth it for me to continue associating with that person. I've got enough problems of my own, and I don't need to surround myself with people who have that level of negativity.

Nah not really. I worry sometimes about my monetary situation, girls, school, and other trivial things...but then I think about third world nations where people don`t know when they`ll be able to access clean drinking water next and I realize I could be in a much, much worse situation. I really just try and enjoy life, and live in the moment as much as possible.

OT consists primarily of successful, well-adjusted people, so I doubt there are many chronic worriers here. For myself, I take a risk assessment of many things I do.

  1. What is the maximum possible reward?
  2. What is the risk: The severity of a possible event versus the likelihood of said event occuring?

Ideally, this leads me to things like not drinking and driving or wearing a helmet when I ride my bike. Anyway, I try not to make it an emotional decision, so I don't think it's worrying.

Yes, my anxiety and stress levels are always incredibly high. I worry about absolutely everything, from something as small as worrying about looking stupid while purchasing an item in a store to something as large as worrying about the future (getting a job, paying off school loans, etc.). I can hardly take a step without worrying about it.

Yes and I can't help it. It comes and goes in more bad weeks when I fret about everything, and good times where I'm more relaxed. I worry mainly about what people think of me and I'm constantly judging the overall mood of a conversation. A good day for me is when I feel that everyone I spoke to was happy and engaged. If I feel that I spoke too much, or bored people it worries me for ages. I have a really bad memory so I constantly have the feeling that I've forgotten something and I worry about that too. I've always used a filofax and lists etc but recently I've become mega organised, using filofax, lists, software and 2 notepads. I used to tidy my room and write up lists every so often to clear my head but nowadays my room is spotless all the time and I write lists every other day or so and all my receipts are written up onto a spreadsheet. The organisation doesn't affect my life - I don't sit at home all day making lists, I fit it around my usual day i.e. in a quiet hour at work. I'd give anything to be more relaxed but I just can't switch my brain off. I think it's also why it takes me so long to get to sleep every night.

I was. In matter of fact, I don't think I ever sat down without worrying about a certain issue, regardless if that issue is something to be worry-worthfull or not. I was a major worrier to the point I was evem shunned, at a certain point,by my best friends because of that. And those who are close to me always nag me due to my worrying personality.

After constant worrying, and after a LONG series of major let downs on situations I used to worry a LOT in, my constant worrying transformed into a major "not giving a **** anymore"personality.

Also, as a pessimistic person , I have completelyremoved my worrying personality and transformed into an unemployed, loafing, and uncaring person.

In other words, I have disregarded my complete potential. So this makes me think that, having either established a balanced personality of worryor being a constant worrier is - in the long term - better than simply living the moment.

See, I wish I could be like that. The things I can't control kinda freak me out and cause me to worry about them and usually end up causing me to feel completely hopeless and useless. So yes, I tend to worry a lot, too much really. -sighs-

I am one of those people who worry every day about everything. One thing i worry the most is the future. My success or my chances of success are being evaluated on a daily basis - what is the next step in order to get a getter job, better education/qualifications, where is the best place to raise my family (eventually that is) and stuff like that. I guess this is how i was raised, because my family was one of those people that liked to have everything planned (to the best extend of course). They were always mindful of everything. No wonder i am exactly like them. Very particular about evetything - bills, health, distinction good from bad in a nutshell.

Overall, i worry about life too much but this same fact has helped me do things correctly at a very early age. And i rarely make mistakes with big consequences...(knock on wood)
