I've had two portions of meat in the past two months. I guess I compromised my initial strict vegatarian resolution, however I've decided to limit my consumtion of meat greatly and even then only eat free-range organic meat. I need my amino acids and I find it a tad bothersome to maintain a diet of numerous seeds etc. as a substitute for eating meat.
There are all sorts of very good reasons for being a vegetarian, but I just love meat too much. I do try to eat mostly free range meat though.

Oh come on. What's the worst that could happen?
Muscle atrophy from lack of protein? *shrugs*
there are plenty of sources of protein...

Sure, but meat is still a primary source.

In the long term it can also lead to reduced inteligence levels, mental retardation and even death from lack of protein. No way, never. Meat is the greatest food group there is, chicken,steak,pork,ham,turkey,ribs,bacon....my mouth waters just thinking of the deliciousness.

Yes, I clearly said "from lack of protein" Its not impossible to get the necicarry proteins if your a veggie, it just makes it harder.

Quite incorrect, sir.
It's high in protein, contains essential amino acids, vitamins B6 and B12, iron, riboflavin, and others.
Meat isn't the only thing with those nutirients...

But it is much harder to get them without meat.
Why would I restrict my diet for no good reason?
Religious reasons are hard to fault and impossible to counter, so I view them as the only legitimate reason for vegetarianism.
Ethical reasons - if it's due to factory farms, eat free-range. If it's because the animals are too cute, eat fish. If the fish are too cute, get a bandage for that bleeding heart.
Health reasons - stop being lazy. It's possible to eat meat and maintain a healthy diet just as it's easy to eat an unhealthy vegetarian diet. All that taking the vegetarian diet card does is force you to pay more attention to what you eat (unless you want to become deficient and anemic), which means your issues are less health-related and more self-control.
Everything in moderation.

I didn't say it was the only one that contained those things. I was merely listing what meat has.

You did say meat is vital. It is not, and all benefits of meat can be replaced by other things.
I'm hungry. I think I'll have pork, beef, chicken, and some sort of fish for dinner. :) Or lamb. Lamb alone > all of that.Jandurin
Even though I agree with you, because we are now arch-nemeses, I must beg to differ. You see... the best meat is DEFINITELY lobster! YUMMM.
[QUOTE="Engrish_Major"][Yeah, Tofu is pretty good for protein, right? Not that I've found...

Yep. Tons of soy products are available, as well as nuts, seeds, and things like edamame (which is great). At Whole Foods you can find all sorts of soy products to add to meals.
