For the longest time I've told people, no, I am not afraid to die. But recently I've gotten to thinking, once I'm gone, everything I have will be gone. No more friends, family, or possessions. The other thing that has always worried me is that I don't know what is coming after. Is is true what the christian faith says? That I will either go to heaven or hell? Or is there nothing at all? What if God does not see fit to let me into heaven? An eternity in hell? Just some thoughts I've been having recently...Would like to know your guys' take on it.

I'm a little worried, mainly because I don't believe in the afterlife, and so my image of death is my mind dying and me being unable to think, thus, unable to do anything.

I'm not afraid of death, no.

However I'm rather happy where I am now and wouldn't appreciate being taken away, thank you.

I am a little bit.
I think i am actually more afraid to live though, i mean life can be scary at times.

I am not afraid of what comes after death, i already know.
We just become ghosts or we go to the planet where the Annunaki Gods are.
I believe in the Annunaki, and i know we will all see the Annunaki once we die.

Nope and I'm not religious either. The only thing I fear about death is that I couldn't live a good enough life and bring enough joy into other people's lives or have my death be in vain.

Its my birthday tomorrow and all I can think about is getting older. Im still really young and all that but its just preying on my mind. Im only a kid and I know I shouldnt be worrying about that sort of stuff but I cant help it. I'm a Christian and all and until a few months ago I was safe in the thought I would spend eternity up there. I still believe it but questions pop up like what if God really doesnt exsist. Sometimes I get scared about how short life really and when I go to hospitals I can smell death in the air and I begin to get sad. I really don't know...

When you sleep, 'you' don't exist. Sure your body and such is still around, but you as a personality become non-existent. You only become you when awake and conscious. Death must be much the same (not touching on afterlife here). You as a personality cease to exist, your body stays around and starts doing stuff like decaying (or BURNING if you go that route) but you aren't aware. So, every night you're experiencing personality death anyway. Another way to look at it is death is just like before you were conceived. Remember that? Me either.

The reactive part of the brain does indeed shut down. And you only dream in REM sleep, which is a very small amount of the time you spend asleep.

Beyond faith-based speculation, there is nothing beyond the brain shutting down to explain what happens during/after death. Once your body ceases to function, so does your brain and "you" along with it.

You say that like it's a fact. You have no idea what actually happens to "us" when we die...unless you have some kind of amazing power of dieing for long periods of time and then returning to life? It doesn't take "faith" to admit that we just simply don't know or to acknowledge that there just MIGHT be something after this life.

That is the only "fact" we have... beyond that there is nothing that we can comprehend as we exist currently. We may not know what lies beyond but you cannot claim anything beyond the brain dying and the personality of the individual along with it as "fact" since we do not know and probably will never know.

And it does take faith to admit what we "think" or "believe" lies beyond, since there are no facts to support any understanding of it.

Very. I remember when I was 17 and I watched an episode of Six Feet Under. This guy with terminal cancer was on his death bed, and he was really panicing and Nate was trying to tell him to relax and the guy kept repeating "there's no white light! THERES NO WHITE LIGHT" and died while Nate was sobbing and saying "its ok.. its ok" over and over. It was the most depressing thing I've ever seen on tv and triggered a nervous breakdown :?

Death is inevitable. Our fear of it makes us play safe, blocks out emotion. It's a losing game. Without passion you are already dead.

Well, then it is fair to say that it also takes faith to believe that we die and there's nothing else...since we also don't know that to be fact either.

What we know is the mechanics... what we don't is what comes after, if anything.

It is in no way fiction.

You as a personality cease to exist, your body stays around and starts doing stuff like decaying (or BURNING if you go that route) but you aren't aware. So, every night you're experiencing personality death anyway. Another way to look at it is death is just like before you were conceived. Remember that? Me either.br0kenrabbit
If you have read quran some suras indicate your ghost will go in different times back or future so you will see it as a dream. it depends on your faith what dreams will you see.all of us belive heaven and hell . we should worry about death and after that. i am muslim and god in his book says that if a man follows the god orders why be worry about death.and think about immortal world because this world that we are living in is mortal. i am sure a lot of faithful people belive the immortal world.

all in all human is not worry about death because if we be worry about it we can't live. it is one of perceptions that god gave it to human for good living.

Nope, not at all. I just want to be able to expect my death and not die suddenly, so I can mentally prepare for it.

No, I'm afraid of where it leads.
