[QUOTE="Zagrius"]Actually, if you're Jewish and an atheist then there's still no reason not to celebrate Hannukah, as even if you ignore the 'small oil pot burns for eight days' bit, you can still celebrate how the Maccabies drove out the Greeks, or Romans (always get those two confused).MindFreeze

You can't possibly be Jewish and Atheist...

I'm a Jewish atheist, what does my ethnic background have to do with my belief in a deity?

I'm more of an atheist. Christmas to me is just like any day - only with presents and family around me.

Atheistic? Yes, and Christmas is more about commercialism and the Seven Deadly Sins--at least in American tradition and in therms of how most people are raised on it.

Nope. But you can be atheist and celebrate the commercial aspect of Christmas. Shame the holiday took on such a mercenary meaning to the world. However, to Christians it's still very much a religious holiday as well...so those of you stating otherwise...wrong.

Some Christians need to raise their children....more Christian--otherwise it remains a revering of commercialism and materialism to them above all else.

Yes. I celebrate Christmas because any religious meaning to the holiday has been swept away by consumerism. And besides, who doesn't like free crap?

Because if you are "Jewish" then you believe in God, while atheists believe THERE IS NO GOD. How could you possibly be both, you can't.

Define atheist.

There's nothing to it more than "a person who believes there are God/s".

You seem to forget that Judaism is both a religion and an ethnic group. Even if I don't follow the Jewish faith, I'm still Jewish by blood.

Yes, and I partake in Christmas. I don't really "celebrate" it, but it's a good time to give and get gifts.

A person is considered Jewish if their mother is Jewish. So yes, one can be both Jewish and an atheist.

Yes, and I don't celebrate the religious side of Christmas. It was made up in retrospect anyway, so getting presents FTW.Bourbons3

Yes I am celebrating christmas. But it is more of a family thing to wish ourselves good luck and happiness. Not so much celebrating the birth of Jesuschrist.

Christmas is a purely commercial holiday. Any religious connections it has are merely coincidental.foxhound_fox

First off, you spelt 66% of those holidays incorrectly. Second, yes, I am Atheist. Third, I do celebrate Christmas. Fourth, I do so because its released itself from the grasp of religion and ascended into a hollow holiday that is solely about gifts and not religion or kindness.
