Are you first to greet someone, or do you wait to be greeted yourself?

A lot of times, we pass people in our society and not say hi in the slightest. Maybe we force a smile, but even in our places of works, we may not say hello to people we pass within inches of each other. I've noticed this a lot and I think basically, it stems from most people usually waiting to be greeted first. I say hello to several strangers in a day, and I find it's usually returned with a friendly greeting, and sometimes, they might even be talkative. It just seems like waiting contest to be honest at times, or a blinking contest, like, who's going to blink first. So, do you initiate the greetings most of the time, or do you wait for someone else to do it?

Depends on the situation and my mood.

It depends. I really dont like greeting people at all, but when I want to rid us of the awkwardness of the moment, I just greet just to get on with it. :P

I always greet first unless someone greets me first. But I'm not afraid to make the first stepo I generally do the greeting.

When it is someone I know well I will usually be the first but if I don't talk to the person very often I wait sometimes.

Depends on the situation, really.

I try always try to make first greeting.

Place like school it's a good thing cause of good first impression.

I always greet people, either I'm joking around or I want to know them.

I will wait for someone to greet me first. When I used to greet people first, they will look at me weird, like I just insulted their mother or something.

Usually I wait for someone to greet me first. Unfortunately, if the other person expects me to say hello first and I don't, the situation gets really awkward. :?

I never greet anyone and I don't expect the same in return.

I don't greet people cause I naturally assume that they don't want to talk to me.

I don't really wait, most people just greet themselves first, but I do when its appropriate.

Depends on my mood, but I usually go out of my way to make eye contact and greet people with a "good morning" or "hello". Or, if I'm at a grocery store, I usually ask the clerk how their day is going.

I do not greet other people on account of the fact that they terrify me.

If on something like MSN I never greet first... but in person if I meet someone I know its seen as very rude if I don't aknowledge them when they do to me... so I do it then.

I'm not really a people person

I'm not usually very sociable especially around people I don't know. If I feel like it, I'll try to greet someone first; otherwise I wait to be greeted. :P
