I am trying to get better since I am taking a theater acting class and I have to memorize a page long monologue. Its not easy but I find that writing things down helps me memorize.

Yeah. I was like 9 and memorised a whole play and I was Juliette so it wasn't like it was a few lines.

That was a good day :)

I am absolutely horrible at memorizing material. However, I am rather good at remembering general concepts. As an example, when studying languages I grasp the grammar easily but stress over learning just a few vocabulary.

I can memorize equations, because they're easy to picture in my head. I find it hard to remember a script, however.

Yes. Writing helps me too. I manage to get high marks at the university without learning at all, I just remember almost everything I heard... Unfortunately, I'm really bad when it comes to numbers and addresses.

I'd never go back to theatre. I never enjoyed memorising roles, improvisation is what I did best.

Yeah. I use mnemonics. I have a vivid imagination and relate stuff to other stuff, which helps me memorize stuff. The more sexual or weirder the thing is, the easier it is to remember.

For example, why bother knowing that tan²x + 1 = sec²x...

I remember that 2 tan girls plus me (1) equals sex.

I can be pretty good at it if I put in enough time. I used to have to memorize passages in Latin and recite them in front of my class in junior high and high school. I always did okay...though I was a bit nervous. I've also had to memorize several pieces of music.

Ya, my memory's really good. I also got the largest roles in plays since I could remember everything so easily. I always ended up memorizing everyone's lines, even if I was nowhere in that particular scene. Good memory helps a lot for tests and exams. All I do is sort through my notes, and as soon as I read a few lines of a multiple page note, I can remember the entire lesson. I feel kind of bad though, since I hardly even have to try to get 98% average, while other people are struggling to keep above 80%. :(

Yup... but I need a visual cue first. If I'm studying with a textbook for an exam (well, for my psych minor, since my normal classes are all engineering and you actually have to *know* that stuff), I don't try to memorize whatever I need to know, but instead I just look at the page. When I bring it up in my mind for the exam, I can see the entire page and everything on it. Then I just read it from my mind. :P

It depends on what it is , unfortunately. I am excellent at memorizing music for performance, not so great at remembering where the hell I put my keys.

Depends on to what you're referring. I remember things I've written or have read with ease, but I'm not very good at remembering things people tell me.

Try it next time, it makes life so much easier. I forgot to say, personal examples work good as well. Some more examples: livor mortis - The liver is an organ, and organs are made of blood. (When blood settles in dead body) rigor mortis - Rigorous training means hard work and tough. (When body stiffens in dead body) algor mortis - Al Gore hates global warming. Global warming has to do with temperature. (cooling the temperature in a dead body)

I haven't done chemistry in a while, so do you have any specific topics? One thing I used for chemistry to balance equations was a complex (but easy for me) way using a mole to cross the mole bridge, complete with troll that won't let you pass under said bridge.

I'm ok with moles. It's the organic chemistry i'm stuck on, like memorizing reactions of halogenalkanes or carboxylic acids, etc.

I haven't done organic chem.

Just see if you can find a pattern or something to help you memorize the stuff. Chem is hard to make mnemonics for, but it's not impossible.

No worries, i appreciate the effort. I do have a diagram of all the reactions, huge though it may be, it's just one of those things in science you need to practice over and over again. :?

I find that writing what you have to memorize and plus reading it a lot helps.
