Hey there everyone,
Just wanted to pop the question here on the off-topic forum:
Are you happy with your life and yourself? Why?
Thank you in advance, would be interesting to see how people are feeling today in our modern society!
Karl
Why so many unhappy people? Expectations to high or is life really that bad? I am happy. I have health, good job, my wife, a house, my animals, video games.
I'm extremely happy with my life and who I am because things are going well for me and because I worked my ass off trying to get to where I am today, especially as a person.
I had a rough childhood, I made stupid decisions in my teens, I am now 20 battling cancer. I am grateful and happy to be alive, but the experience I've gone through has been nothing but choices I could not make.

Nobody likes a showoff. =P
I can say I am happy :) . I have goo health and that would be enough for a person to be happy. I become unhappy when my expectations are too high, but soon or later i get down on the earth and then i realize that my health, my friends and family are enough to make me happy ! :)
Yeah I'm happy.
I'm in a new area, I like my new job and it pays well and I have my girlfriend with me.
Life's pretty good right now.

i if i had all those things i would be happy to.
I feel kind of guilty now but yes. Normally I just make non serious joke posts but how can everyone in this thread be so unhappy? I guess I'm lucky I fell on my head so much as a child as ignorance is bliss baby and no one is more ignorant than I. If you have a full belly and death is not impending happiness can surely be found. Live day to day and don't worry about anything... except maybe the bills. You never know what will fall into your lap when you least expect it as long as you are out there doing stuff and living there is always hope.
I'm happy as ****. Got a full time job and have gained control over my eating habits. Weighing 280 pounds, since last week it has come down to 275. Feeling a lot better after cutting soda and drinking a lot more water. I work with good people too so, I enjoy being at work. I have some unmet goals in my life but I'll get to them eventually. I don't really have anything to be depressed about. If I get depressed then I'll just shop online for CDs or clothes. I have also been watching the Metalocalypse DVDs that I have, "they makes me laughs."
Yep.
If I wasn't so drunk I would probably know what that word means but if being inebriated makes you happy than have at it.
Well it doesn't make me happy knowing I rely on it. Last thing I want it to be getting drunk literally every single day.
That's something I have to learn to sort out myself though.

How's things going, btw? You hanging in there? I believe it was you I spoke to, you've recently been diagnosed right.....like a month ago?
Yeah, I'm happy with life and who I am. Can't complain. I have a beautiful wife, no health issues, a roof over my head, and a regular job that pays decent. Speaking of job, I'm working on getting a new one now that my wedding is out of the way. Something new with increased pay will make things even better.
Last year was hard. Mother went from being healthy to being sick to being dead, very quickly. My partner lost his job. Had some health issues. But we're doing ok now.
I've always thought life was like that old joke about the guy that jumped off the 100 story building. About half way down another guy spotted him and yelled "how you doing?"
The guy replied "soooooooooooooooooooooooo faaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, sooooooooooooo gooooodddddddddddddddd."
I'm generally happy. I have a great wife, a nice home, a good job, and no debt (besides the mortgage). I'm tired of getting up and going to work every day though.

Yeah, I'm holding up rather well. I've had around 2 blood transfusions so far and coming in today to get checked if I will be needing another one. Chemo has given me some ups and downs but this week has been rather easy for me, and I start consolidation this Friday.

For starters, I'd argue that if you're totally happy then you're doing life wrong. Progress is driven by a lack of something that you want or need. If there's nothing lacking in your life, nothing broken that you want to fix, then where the hell are you supposed to go next? There's nowhere left to go but downhill.
Now, I'd like for everyone to have access to the things that they NEED, and I think it's reasonable for everyone to have some access to some things that they don't need but simply WANT. But when I think about "complete happiness", I'm thinking of "nothing is lacking, nothing is wrong." Fixing things is in itself a basic human need, and when nothing's wrong that means there's nothing left to fix. So...how the hell are you gonna fill that void in your heart that's only filled up when you fix something or solve a problem?
Makes me think of an old Futurama episode I once saw. The professor discovered everything there was to discover, then he was happy for a few seconds, until he realized that he now has nothing left to discover.
@MrGeezer: you can be happy and still want more/better. I didn't say well I have everything I want in life I am done yet.
Full time student and full time worker is pretty tough, but my new girlfriend and having a lot of fun experiences lately so not much to be down about anymore. Very busy, but also happy.

Good to hear. What's your treatment, if you don't mind me being so nosy? Are you on pills? Infusions? Was chemo what you expected?
