I, personally, well I guess I am offended? It depends on it's usage, like if someone were to call me one I'd be offended or if it's said very often. But if someone says it as a quote from a movie line or I hear it in a song, then I'm not really that bothered by it. Does anyone else feel this way? If not, then how do you feel?

No. I think everyone needs to stop worrying about offending everyone else. And some people need to get some thicker skin ;)

No, I'm not. I think it's a harsh word, because it just has that very jaded kind of pronounciation and don't really like to hear it( er ending), but it doesn't really offend me

I do agree with the fact that it's a pointless word, and it shouldn't be used at all.

I'm not offended by words; I'm offended by their intended meaning in context.

Quite frankly I think that those who are offended by the words themselves need to become less lazy and actually pay attention to what's being said. :P

This.

I basically pity anyone who throws it around. Expand your vocabulary and you wont have to fill in the blanks with vulgarities.

well, I don't think I've ever truly been offended before in my life. I don't use the N word, or respect anyone's decision to. But it doesn't offend me.

No, but I despise most people that use it. My cousin throws it in every sentence and everytime she says It I just feel like punching her, she's not even black so it's only a matter of time before she says it in the wrong place. Needless to say she had it coming. It's just such an ugly despicable word and I don't understand why anyone would want to delevel themselves to using it in everyday matters. That word is so despicable it really paints the user with an ugly face.

It depends on how its used on context. My dad for example grew up in the South Bronx and in a very tough neighborhood so he had a very street dialect as a kid(he doesn't now though) Where he was from those who said it meant no harm. It was just a sign of friendship/brotherhood. My dad is a very light skin Puerto Rican and looks whiter then some Caucasian people and one story he told me was that when he went to the army he was joking around with his friends and said the N word with an "a" ending and a random muscular black man heard him and was about to fight him and my dad told him, where hes from its a sign of friendship and not a word of racism and the man cooled down, but he was mad at the fact that a "whiteman" was using it...

So even though I am not "officially" black I do have ancestors that were brought from Africa as slaves to Puerto Rico by the Spaniards and it does seem very offensive when anybody says the "er" word. But to me the "a"word is a brotherly/friendship word.

Yes, despite people saying suck it up, or everyone's to PC these days, it's offensive. It has a very long and nasty history in the US and we would all be better if it were never said.

I'll be lieing if I said that I'm not shocked whenever the word is said. However, I try not to be personally offended but sometimes it just snaps at me.

No, I love that word. I use it and its variants incessantly.

Vulgarity is an fine art, and the n word is just another color for my canvas.

Incidentally, I've never used that word to directly insult a black person. Odd, that.

I was brought up to believe that it's the worst of the worst but these days I just view it like any other strong swear word -- never in mixed company, friends only type of word.

Me and my friends say it all the time, but not to intentionally offend people (we're white)

In fact, every time I see my black friends at school I'll just be like, "Wazzup my nig!?" and shake their hand

I'd never say it to someone I don't know, though

Am I offended by the word? First of all, I don't answer to 'that' word, so I find it hard to be offended by. Second, I equate it to any curse word. Calling me the 'n' word is along the same lines, to me, as calling me a ****head.
