I pretty much live paycheck to paycheck with a little left over for games. How about you?
Get by.
In regards to games, very rarely buy "AAA" games anymore for a few reasons. Prices keep increasing, exploitive practices, most just aren't as engaging as games from the 90's for me, lot's of "cinematic" stuff I hate etc.. etc..
But thankfully lot's of £10 -£20 games on Steam, even cheaper where you can happily ignore most of them.

same with nothing left for games lol. been hard since biden got in. this is not a political thing. just started being broke 2nd year he was in. rent went up 800. electric was included. not no more. groceries prices to feed family of 5 just got to much.
I'm US upper-middle class/California lower-middle class.
I make enough to save for retirement, but not enough to afford a house. Well not in California, at least.
I want to say I am doing all right. Better than most. Thankful I have no debt.
...I don't want to be rich or poor. Just a simple life with a simple career to get by and the same goes for my family.
I think most people are like that. At least, I like to believe most are.
People just want enough to be comfortable. Being poor is obviously not great but I think we are also seeing that being wealthy has its own sort of issues that goes with it.
My wife and I usually have enough to pay for everything and either save a little or have enough for entertainment. I usually get at least a couple new games a month, but I've been saving towards a small business I'm starting soon. Most of our extra money has gone toward turning our 500 sq ft. garage into a master bedroom and workshop split in a 40/60.
We are a little tighter than normal right now due to the fact, but are hoping it will pay dividends. We are about right in the middle of middle class in IL. I'm a 100% retired Marine and she is an accountant for a telecommunications company. It's been a lot of hard work, and we aren't rich, but there's still time, so the dream is still alive.
I'd love to pass on a family business and some land to my wife and kids and look back with no regrets.
upper middle class but current economic environment seems determined to curb stomp me back down to middle class.

Do you still actually receive cheques?

No. For the most part I think "paychecks" are directly deposited in a bank, these days.

Good news. With Trump imposing tariffs across everything, you will now have the luxury of paying more. 😊
To the topic, no I don't live paycheck to paycheck.
I do not, and I won't for a while. I love living with my family, even if they annoy me at times. It saves me money.
I don’t even make nearly enough to make ends meet from week to week. I live alone, the rent was increased to $1,530 a month, now I got to pay for utilities. I have over $20,000 in debt and have to pay for everything from “A” to “Z”. I feel in less than a year I am going to be financially ruined, I don’t have any one to lean on for help or support. I’m on my own. Having Faith in Our Lord is my Strength, it’s how I manage through stress.

prices have already going done at the grocery store. gas is under 3 bucks now. chicken went down again and more. I have not noticed any prices gone up since his tariffs.
Not rich, but I dont live paycheck to paycheck either.
I have about 6 months of salary in my nest egg and I am trying to grow it to 9 months by the end of this year.
I would probably already have had it if I didn't donate so much money to scientific research.
@gifford38: Gas prices has been under $3 for the past 2 years. Show me where groceries are trending down and share how tariffs reduce prices. I looking forward to your answer.
not were I came from it been 3.49 for years. now its 2.89. I shop for family of five and I have noticed prices going down. eggs have gone down as well by almost 2 bucks. never said tariffs bring prices down. just saying I haven't noticed any thing that has gone up since then. house prices have been reduced as well I noticed. been trying to buy a house for years now. been talking to a realtor. look the inflation has stopped and prices are dropping.
Doing fine, own a house with the wife and two kids, have money enough to go on vacations and buy most of what I want without thinking to much about it. So upper middle class I guess!? So yeah would be great if your orange clown didn’t destroy the world and the economy the next 4 years🙄🙄

he didn't destroy in his first term. things were cheap. his last day in gas prices was 1.88 lowest its been since year 95.
@gifford38: true true, but without turning this into a political thread, he seems to quite a bit more unhinged this time around
@gifford38: Because you simply haven't experienced the tariffs as yet. The items already shipped in the store is from pre tariffs. If you believe that the shit the current admin is pulling is making things cheaper you are...🙃
funny thing is you don't know that yet. lets see were this brings us. he already bargained with a few countries already. germany, vietnam and few others. so far I have noticed things are getting cheaper.

Please share a scenario in which tariffs reduces the cost of products for the country imposing the tariffs.
Also, he cannot "bargain" specifically with the Germany because Germany is part of the EU.
What things have gotten cheaper?

The average gas price in January 2021 $2.39. Where was it $1.88?
It seems as though some people don't seem to realize that an average price takes into consideration the highest and lowest prices.. just because you live in or around a big city that has had very high gas prices doesn't mean it isn't cheaper elsewhere. Those cities are the ones raising the average. My wife and I usually get gas in smaller rural towns where it's 20 to 40 cents cheaper than in the city. Not always, but a good portion of the time.
@Pedro: hell with China for 2 reasons. One China is combining forces with Russia against Ukraine Yet Trump is putins puppet one derangement from the democrats. Two US has given them 300 billion dollars in trade over them given us. Yet our country buys more of there product than anyone. Trade deficit. The US money is funding they're army to support Russia. So basically we are funding both sodes of this war. Ok back to system wars not political crap.

Please provide some link the gas prices being $1.88 in January 2021 in Rhode Island.
Trump stop supporting Ukraine. Trump stop providing tactical data to Ukraine. Trump did not impose tariffs on Russia. Please feel free to correct any one of those three points.
Please provide some link in which US money is funding China's army to support Russia. Otherwise you are being deranged.
The US is a consumer driven market. They consume. China meets the needs of that consumption. US companies have shifted their production to China. Your goods are cheaper because of this. Imposing taxes on US citizens for practices that has been normalized for decades is not going to magically shift manufacturing stateside. Last I checked, you were price sensitive and now you have a president that is intentional making moves to increase cost but for some reason you are OK with it.🤷🏾♂️
Last 5 or 6 years I don't live paycheck to paycheck anymore, I buy more expensive stuff now and I keep increasing my saving. I live in the family house, so I don't pay rent, I don't own a car (don't wanna) and thankfully I'm healthy. But I still can't afford to buy an apartment. Were I not single, double the money could do the trick, barely. By I like being single...
My wife and I are doing ok. Mortgage about half paid off, and thanks to inflation it's only about 1/3 to 1/4 the value of the house. No debt otherwise.
Picked up a used truck during covid for cheap, we camp a lot, been skiing a lot, and can afford to go somewhere sunny every winter for a week or two if we want.
But im 45 and got in before things went crazy. I'm concerned for my kids, as I know if things continue, they'll never be able to afford a house, without significant financial help from me and the missus.
Pay check to pay check or monthly disability. Lucky for me my house is was passed down so no mortgage and I get a boost whenever I feel like signing back up for college that increase my income to about 15 extra k. Ive always been a big believer in living below my means and thats helped a lot. My disposable income comes from 2 credit cards and I try to only spend for bdays or xmas.
"little left over for games"
BTW OP. You don't have to buy games anymore.
Adjusted or NOT for inflation, games are cheaper than they have even been- as long as you stay away from Nintendo since they charge up to $90 per game https://www.reddit.com/r/nintendo/comments/1jxnixd/nintendo_just_confirmed_90_for_full_zelda_breath/
You can easily game for a $10 monthly subscription on PC/Xbox game pass or PS+ and play games such as NG4, Death Loop, Forza, Ninja Gaiden 2 black, Far Cry, Diablo, Halo infinite, Doom The Dark Ages etc. on gamepass. I don't plan on buying ANY games this year unless gta 6 comes out. I will just play ng2 blk, ng4, overwatch 2, Doom the Dark Ages for free on my PC game pass.
Unless you live under a rock and pay full price for all your games and don't know about PS+ or xbox/PC game pass or are willing to dish out hundreds if not THOUSANDS a year on $85 games w/ tax such as Mario Kindergarten Kart and Donkey Shit- games are cheaper than ever before.

Back in the 90's the thought process really blossomed for people to think it was better to spend money on cheap junk over higher priced quality goods.
