Oh gawd...Yeah I basically knew that back then America was a very educated country during those times. We always had this old substitute come in and tell us how tough school was back in the day and how so much has changed(he's correct).

Lol I'd like to meet him.

I miss the classic times; it was both screwed up and awesome.

If I had to learn and then recall all of the different parts of the constitution for a test I could probably do it. But I'd probably forget most of it within a couple of years. Maybe we should go find the guy who took that test today, and see if he still remembers all of that.

No unfortunately, the last time I had U.S. History ( last year in 8th grade) we spent more time on slavery than anything else. We were never taught much about amendments and cabinet members. Now that I see this, I should really get to remembering the people who run my country. :?

This isn't hard if you actually study the material. Nowadays Teachers prefer to emphasize good study habits and research abilities over facts which can be easily looked up.

The same here really. Last year was mainly The American Revolution, and The Civil War. Nothing else.

There is no way that is the average 1954 8th grader. If it was than the teacher would have put the words "excellent" above the grade.

I'm very disappointed, Kenny. You got question 95 wrong! Everybody knows that the state government does NOT regulate inter-state commerce.

Wow. That's quite the test, I could almost give you a brief summary on each of the amendments -- but the cabinet positions... yeah, I'd be screwed. If I had to name all the czars... my god! :o

Memorization does not equate to intelligence. That entire test was nothing more than straight up memorization which helps nobody in the real world when it comes to solving problems. Education became a lot more practical in the last 50 years.

Like a bunch of other people have said, that's just memorization. Those facts can be looked up in a matter of seconds on the internet.

You also have to understand the concepts. it's not just memorize it real quick and you are good to go. That much meomorization, espeically remembering the amendments at that young of an age isint that easy to do, considering you would probably fail the second you took that test..

That just takes memorizing, it doesn't make you a genius.

This. The chances are this kid studied for the test. Every time I have studied for a test, regardless of what the subject was, I received a very good grade. In other words...study and anyone can be that smart also. :)

This is a smart 8th grade kid to just mess up on just one question dealing with a pretty complex subject..

It's not complex. Those are just memorization problems. Tests like the one in this topic are the reason I never had to study until college.

For this to be comprehension it would have to require the student giving an explanation and analysis. Obviously this test does not require such deep understanding of the material. In fact, it doesn't require understanding of the material at all, just knowledge of it.
