Face it, if you're wearing black and you're not black, you're racist.

It was a racist thing but when you think about it, there's still some subtle racism out there that exists today. This isn't really racism since no one's painting their face to act black. They're painting it for a blackout game.

I'd say no. People paint themselves school/team colors all the time...

I did say it was. I meant that things that we consider not racist were probably racist back then. Like black people and chicken and then we see those popeye ads with that black lady and we just don't think about it that much.

Racism has much to do with intent.....and I'm not sure what citing history has to do with anything TBH. One shouldn't generalize any group of people....on the other hand some cultures do have their own...well...culture.

I don't think they intended to offend. They just wanted to support their team. If they just walked down the street looking like that, then yes It would be racist, but all they were doing was supporting their team. Its not 'insensitive', the people who are offended are too sensitive.

I think people should ease up on trying to find racism everywhere and get some thicker skin. Like a comedian once said " We teach our kids to just ignore other kids who offend them, to just think that they're stupid and shrug it off. Then we, adults, get offended and instead of practising what we preach we start to whine, cry and complain."

Anyone who is familiar with the context of blackface would probably immediately recognize the idea of putting yourself in blackface as one that people might very well see as racist. I'm guessing these girls either aren't very smart or just weren't aware of the social context of blackface.

You're right to some measure, but this isn't blackface. Just painting your face black is not the same thing.

It was like 95 degrees outside that night. No one's face would be getting cold.

[QUOTE="jasonharris48"]

Aren't those the school's colors? BTW one of the students who wore the alleged "blackface" is black.So how is this racist? :roll:

GreySeal9

I don't think this is racist at all, but I don't agree with the philosophy that if a black person is involved, then it can't be racist.

Yeah, but it makes it a bit less likely in this instance.

To be honest I feel like black people whine way too much about perceived racism these days.

People play the race card to get fame, money, or just noticed by other people like this professor did. It's stupid.

It is not racist at all, with them wearing blackface it goes with the black out theme that Arizona was having for that game.
