While this article is clearly bias, it is the duty of a policeman to know the law throughout and the man was right.

Just because the state has open carry laws....doesn't mean there aren't restricted areas.

Or you would just kill/ disarm the open carry guy first. It also makes everyone around you uneasy, which happens every time compared to you most likely never needing to use it to defend yourself.

Who gives a damn if people get uneasy? The few lives that are saved are more important than somebody's comfort. If people should be worried about anything it should be vehicles.

Do we need it? No. But again it saves people from harm. How many open carriers do you see anyway? They aren't exactly rampant.

Well if the assaulter isn't detered and attacks the carrier then somebody gets hurt either way. Open allows the situation to be avoided overall. I honestly don't see the big deal here. People aren't going to suffer from a little tension for half a minute once in a while.

Open carry just let's anyone surprise an open carrier and take their gun. So no it doesn't avoid the situation. Surprise is a powerful thing, with open carry the assailant has surprise on his side, vice versa with concealed.

Ok now I understand your point better. However, if I had to take a guess thieves typically like avoid violence. Perhaps we can agree to disagree?

While open carry is legal, at the same time its also a law that weapons can't be displayed in such a fashion that it "manifests an intent to intimidate another or that warrants alarm for the safety of other persons", and that can be rather subjective. I'm not aware though of any higher court opinions and rulings of how these two laws can contradict each other. While I'm not saying in this case that that might have been the case with this individual, I do feel that some gun proponents are rather antagonistic regarding their right to carry and I could see a potential day where a higher court may rule on an interpretation of the law in which "intimidating" will be defined in a precedent that's unfavorable to gun right proponents.

law enforcement should know the law.

maybe our standards and training are too low, who knows?

Can't believe that officer drew his gun on the guy, though, no excuse to point a loaded weapon at a non-threatening individual.

I find the concept of open carry absurd. What, are you guys in the old west or something? Still, if it is the law, the officer was in the wrong.

I have to wonder why people must afford a patrol officer or a daytime security guard in an open carry state if civilians can play the sheriff.

What constitutes "aggression?"  What is a valid "reason?"  It had better be a good one.

Everyone had a holstered gun in the Wild West. After all, the natural thing to do when you have a gun is just to fire. There must have been non stop shooting. Then I hear the time wasn't so wild as they say.

You are more likely to be shot accidentally by a police officer, than you are by a legal gun owner.

I wouldn't have minded the cop stopping him and being somewhat ignorant of the law if he hadn't pulled the gun on him. That's where it was essentially criminal. Had everything been the same up to that point and the officer radioed in to verify the authenticity of such a law (which it was auethentic, meaning it was his mistake), this would be an absolute non-issue.

People with guns are more likely to kill themselves, a family member, or an innocent than a criminal.

Facts are facts. It's less safe.

You are more likely to be shot accidentally by a police officer, than you are by a legal gun owner.

Facts are facts. The police aren't always safe.
