@Blizz87: I look at it like this. People believe that life exists elsewhere. So it would be safe to assume that considering how old the universe is other civilizations would be progressing as is ours but not safe to assume the same time frame so they would be more evolved somewhere so why is it we haven't seen any space trash from other civilizations. As I say does the earth spin or does the universe spin around the earth considering that the earth is considered to be the center of the universe. And this concept of time. Time does not exist. Time remains the same. God is not going to visit as he wants you to have faith. There is a difference in saying you have faith and believing. If you have faith you do not worry or stress out. As soon as you worry you have proven you have no faith. And I mean all the time not just when it's convenient. God said he wouldn't flood the earth again but it's going to happen another way. Actually it's already happening. I wont say what it is but I'm sure your smart enough to figure it out. There is a transition happening and it's all part of the self destruction of man kind.

i also to do believe there is a transition happening at the moment but i dont believe it is the "destruction" of man. i believe we are evolving, just like we came to be homo sapiens from homo hablis among other things... i believe we are now in a transitional period were we are evolving again to something greater then homo sapiens. i believe we are becoming more "god" like.

All religions were made up by men for men. Ignorant people who needed a simple explanation to what they don't understand. Ancient ways of thought that to this day are still carried. We kill and annihilate eachother over our interpretation of what god is.

Christianity is an ancient religion. It was fine for bringing people together in the beginning, but like a baby taking its first steps the human race must move on from this chain of thought. It serves no more purposes this day in age and is an anchor to the evolution and advancement of our society.

Dude says god saved his mother from cancer. No. I'm sorry. If that was the case then your mother would have never gotten cancer. What saved your mother was a chance chemical reaction within her body. The right condition and the right circumstances caused the cancer cells to recede. Science CAN explain it.

But to go around thinking god is the reason any good things happen on this ball of rock is mentally unhealthy. To shroud yourself from logical reasoning and facts is mentally unhealthy. Also.. how boring. How boring it must be to be Christian and go through life knowing how all this came to be ... No. I'd rather go through life wondering, questioning and discovering. Then to wonder the Earth with a shallow, uneventful, fantastical story that attempts to explain where we come from. Because I'll tell you right now ... The truth is far greater then any of us can imagine. Which makes it greater then the gods we know.

I said it once a few pages back I'll say it again. OP .. your god is TOO SMALL!

.. who here believes in the multiverse theory? I love that one. The theory that our universe is afloat in a sea of other universes. So there's your god right there. And endless sea of universes in constant flux. A story that predates time itself... That is far greater then any story written by men 2000 years ago. A story written on paper milled by men into a book fationed by men. How boring.

I think it's time for a new religion. A tangible, practical religion. Tell me .. why is it people don't go to church to worship our Sun instead? The true entity that gave us life, maintains that life and in the end will take the planets life away. A demi god yes, but a TANGIBLE god. One who's existence cannot be denied. One who energy can be touched, seen and heard. The world would be a much better place.

ancient egyptians did worship the sun and some people still do today but you're forgetting not only does the sun give us life but so does the earth.

If God and Jesus is as benevolent as christians say he is he wouldn't send you to hell just for not believing in him.

@-Blasphemy-:

God created the universe to it's magnitude so that we would have something to explore. If we didn't have the universe to explore we would self destruct much sooner. When we have a goal and we reach our goals we instinctively become self destructive. Most people can't see that but it's very obvious. So whatever your goal is you will not fulfill it ultimately otherwise you will self destruct. But if your goal is to help people you will obtain everything and will always be in the process of reaching your goal as so many people need help it is ultimately an endless battle. When I say self destruction I mean everything all the way down to the pointless and self destructive things that we do on a daily basis. Unfortunately most people don't realize that they are only self destructive and therefore they are stuck in the cycle of self destruction. When we fulfill our goals we self destruct and create problems which gives us the purpose of having to fix the problems we create. If only we would find our purpose without fulfilling the unnecessary purpose that we created through self destruction.

I'd recommend the following book for Christians and Non-Christians alike: Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. He was an atheist turned Christian and his take on God is nothing short of mind-blowing. Very good read!

I was an A student when it came to science but that stuff made no sense to me in regards to creation. Yet, in 2014 people still believe we all evolved from monkeys..... So I am good with believing on Jesus in 2014.

so you believe we came from dirt (our bodies are 90% water) :rolls eyes: makes a hell of alot more sense.

Lol, I don't get you people. Do you even think deeper about there is a possibility of intelligent designer that made this universe? I mean, Earth is designed perfectly for humans to live on Foods and water are there prepared for us to eat and drink? There are foods with nutrients that meet our needs to survive. We got brains and conscience to think with. Penis and vagina to reproduce. There is oxygen for us to breath with. Too perfect for us to be came from "nothingness". Don't forget that Jesus has been proved to be real, he's a historical figure. Go figure.

jesus was real but is the story of him and what he said the truth?

Blasphemy! Jesus evolved like many; devolution is hell. God created man, man created math, math created God, God created man...

man destroys god, man creates dinosaurs....

@Blizz87:

Personally I believe in Freddie Mercury, but for the sake of an argument...

Honestly, I don't think I would be capable of coming up with any coherent form of a response if it became apparent that I was taking permament residency in Hell, what with all that intense existential dread I would no doubt be feeling.

But I don't worry, because it's more than a little silly to defend your faith because you don't want to go to it's particular version of a hell when every other religion does indeed still exist outside arguments and thought experiments.

It's not a binary choice between maybe going to hell or going to Heaven. Instead it's a muddy mess of possibilities, running the gamut from your Heaven all the way to my party with The Artist Formerly With Queen.

The bolded is the most intelligent response in here.

I am not an evil doer and generally I am a trustworthy and good person.

I think that God, if he exists, values these characteristics mainly, and not the frequency I visit the church and pray.

His will is that the world is in a good state right ?

That most people live in happiness and injustice is obsolete.

If that is the case, then I don't think that he will punish me by sending me to hell for all eternity. And if he does, then I will just shrug and accept my fate.

I am really tempted to read all the posts in this topic, but I am afraid of what I might see.....

The reason I KNOW God is real is because of some experiences I seen in my life as well as friends and family.

There's no such as hope or faith. Also, YOU create your own destiny.

So do these threads still crop up nearly every day? I love how snide atheist #954 posts another disapproving comment to the one Christian troll with the reading disability, so insightful.

The "universe" in the Bible consisted of the Earth, a flat piece of land, surrounded by domes of lights (stars) and objects (Sun and Moon). There was no expansive universe where the Earth revolved around the Sun. What you are describing is a modern apology for the contradictions to science in the 2000 year-old text.
