Aside from the Bible, is there any other written record of Jesus?

Is there anywhere else besides the Bible where a man named Jesus Christ is even briefly mentioned?

there are bits and pieces of artifacts that suggest there was a Jesus of Nazareth, outside of written texts...and most historians agree that he was a real person

Christ is a title, not a name. His Hebrew name is transliterated as Yeshua bar-Yosef, and the Greek name is transliterated as Ihsus, with Xristos being the Greek translation of the Hebrew word Messiah. Just an FYI. ;)

Yeah the way I see it is that Christ obviously made a big enough splash to be talked and written about. in a time where there were countless crucifictions and "prophets".

That's after the fact. He means at the time contemporary historians. There would have been tons of them as it was close to the peak of the Roman Empire.

Yeah too bad most of it was lost when everyone's ancestors decided to destroy the things with the funny pictures on them :( I often wonder how much was really lost in Dark Age Europe.

There aren't any contemporary records of him outside of the Bible, no. I think the one that was written soonest after his estimated death was written 50-100 years after the fact.

This is probably true. Many of the great libraries of the ancient world were burned at the hands of Christian mobs. They likely contained much more historical evidence of the life of Jesus than we have now. It got so bad that much of the knowledge we have of the ancient European world comes from far away places like Baghdad and Arabia where there were far less cultural restrictions. That's where we discovered many ancient manuscripts of famous philosophers and scientists that hadn't been been either smuggled out of Christian Europe or had been there since before the fall of the Roman Empire.

In fact, the Gospels weren't contempary accounts but written several decades after the events they list transpired. Most biblical scholars believe The Gospel of Mark was the first one written, and the best estimates for its creation are around 65-70 AD.... more than 30 years after Jesus would have died.

See, here is what I never understood. When did everyone start using the whole AD thing? If the Gospels weren't written 30 years after his death. Did the creators of the Christian calender just guess when he was born?

Anno Domini originated in 525, and was devised by Dionysius Exiguus.

Yes, but Corinthians I was written in the early 50's, which, if you think about it makes sense, why would they write down stuff they are just speaking, most of the New Testament just comes from the disciples of the disciples of Jesus. And there are dozens of other books that didn't make it into the Bible that also are based on Jesus.
