Ok, so I was just browsing the internet, minding my own business, when I can accross an article on Reddit saying how AT&T is blocking access to a certain website.

And I was like "what?". I'm a Time Warner customer myself and have no desire to spend time on said blocked website, but even though it isn't exactly the best website on the internet (far from in my opinion) for many, many reasons, allowing AT&T to do this sets a scary precedent. Who is AT&T to start deciding what websites people should be allowed to access? Today it's AT&T and that website, but who knows, tomorrow it may be Comcast or Time Warner and a site that I actually like.

What are your thoughts, and what do you think should be done about this? Is this even legal?

Nobody will be able to make the internet legal.

People will find ways around that censor, and probably every other one that will ever be placed. They gave us to much freedom with the internet, and we used it.

Sounds stupid to me. People should be able to go to any site whenever they want to. (as long as the site is legal)

I could have seen something like this coming. Someone should ask them if they own the Internet. They shouldn't have a say in my opinion and could even make them lose business. They'll probly start charging more for total access!

Kind of ironic isn't as those folks sometimes dedicate themselves to harassing folks or hacking other sites trying to remove them from the internet...

It's a NSFW image board. You can pretty much guess from there. Regardless of what site it is, I still think internet censorship is wrong. If a website is illegal or something, then take the website down and arrest those responsible, don't censor it.

The only thing that should be censored is kiddie porn (hope we can all agree on that)

Other than that, I support the whole freedom of information thing.

So unless you were looking at little kids in an inappropriate way, you should boycott AT&T.

I think the only time internet providers can censor anything is if the federal government mandates it so.

Just say it's ___________ for christ sake. Now kids, don't visit this site as it's full of naught stuff, ok, I'm not liable anymore. I would like to discuss this without being around the bush about what site it is we're talking about. It's a vital detail to everything, especially if we talk about censorship and censor ourselves about what everyone already knows.

Now that this is out of the way, censorship is not the internet provider's responsibility, and once one thing is censored, everything else is so much easier to censor. 1 site, then 5 sites, then every other site is on a black list. Also, with a blacklist comes a whitelist. A holy list of sites that pay these people, essentially giant advertisement to be the goodguys.

Few people have the power to say what's right and wrong, and corperations like this definetly don't. Lots of ___________ is just BS anyways. Urban legends about the scary dark corner of the internet, when really it's just a bunch of people loling at everything that gets posted, with the name anonymous slapped on to make it seem edgy. Crime rings don't take place there, they're not a center for terrorist organizations, They're not rapist and robbers. It's just all a bad image they want to be painted with.

Apparently, _______ is on gamespot's list, so to avoid bannination, I'll put blanks in here, but highly request that we can mention the name.

Is it the website I think it is? If so, everyone should be blocked from that website.

what the hell is that site? I don't want to go myself if it is that bad...as in don't want that stuff on my computerrawsavon

Please censor my quote, I'd like to not get banned. And ________ is a website where people all given the name anonymous can post pretty much whatever pictures they want. It's a source of a lot but not all internet memes, or at least where they go to get popular, and is also a site made out to be the scary dark corner of the internet full of crime and rapist and terrorism. I wouldn't suggest going there as a lot of people post shock images "for the lulz" but it has nothing to do with terrorist organizations or rape or anything. Pictures of illegal stuff like child porn get deleted anyways so it's not like it's unmoderated.

"That place" is what's wrong with the Internet. I can't believe it hasn't been closed down ... And I wouldn't really consider this censorship.

No, you can't say it. I'm giving fair warning here in this thread, mention the name and I WILL suspend you. Not trying to be a *****, but I don't want anyone randomly stumbling across that site who doesn't need to be there and then later having to gouge their eyes out before the sue Gamespot. :P That said, I suppose it has a right to exist, and if people want to visit it they should be able to. :? While I'll never go there, the idea of censorship of any kind in the public sphere makes me uncomfortable. (Notice I said public sphere... this is a private website and we have the right to set and enforce rules on these boards :P )

my webhost has a block against using any kind of torrent downloader for the mere fact that quite a lot of illegal activity is doen due to torrents. IT is also illegal to walk through the town with a gun due to the fact that a lot of illegal activity would be done because of that.

I dont know what the website is, but if they are blocking it must be pretty bad.
One things though, ATT is falling apart, they are constantly upping their commision requirements for their customer service agents and they are severely restricting refunding and making good customer service harder and harder. I knowa customer service agent from canadaand over the last two months it has gone to hell. She does customer service for Texas and Oklahoma and theyhave their canadian agents say they are from New York lol.

Do you, or are you just talking from friends who want to paint it as the dark evil place, we may never know, but your description of it is no doubt one that resembles someone who saw a certain laughable fox news report on it. I won't say they're perfectly friendly people, they're not, but they have no reason to get the terrorist treatment outside of hype that people who think they know what they're talking about give it.

Not even ________ gets away with creating child porn, the picture existed outside of __________ and in 5 minutes, an hour tops, was deleted. In the mean time, everyone luled at the picture believing themselves to be some bad people and moved on. I could post the same thing on gamespot. Time it right, I could have it sit here for hours and call gamespot an evil site by the same logic. What some people don't realize is that ______ still has moderation to it.

Why _____? I mean there are plenty of way worse sites (like _____, ______, _______ :P ) and any CP (which is against their TOS) on the site is deleted almost instantly.
