Because it seems like a no-brainer to me. There is zero evidence of the existence of any sort of deity, so why would I worship, pray to, dedicate any portion of my life to and most importantly believe in something that doesn't exist. Add that to the fact that I think most aspects of organized religion restrict the progress of the human race and do more harm than good and it became pretty easy to call myself an atheist.

I have no primitive fear of the sun as my ancestors did or a primitive fear of an invisible man in the sky watching me. Those in poverty need it as it tells them that their something more than decomposition that awaits them. The others are followers who do not question. They would be whatever their parents were without question. Not to mention the constant contradictions in their holy texts, often on the same page.

I'm skeptical of anyone that calls themselves an atheist. It implies thought and if they are thinking then there would be no reason to make that qualification.UniverseIX
Sorry... but what?

How does thinking prevent some one from being an atheist?

As long as I can remember I've always been one, and nothing has been able to turn me towards any religon. But I do respect other beliefs.

I became an athiest when I discovered satanism.

God is always smiting people but never shows itself

Anton took his tiger to the grocery store and after I read that I converted.

DO I think its silly of people to believe? not in anyway. We need something to look up to sometimes.I started beleiving in God after losing my parents...I couldn't bear the thought of them returning to nothing and knowing I would never see them or hear them again...I clinged ontpo the concept of God as a way to kill my pain though I never fully beleived in it.

There's far too many things that contradict the existance of God, so logically, I'm an atheist.

I think he is implying that it is redundant, i.e. anyone that thinks is an atheist because it is obviously the smart thing to be. Idunno...lol

I am, and proud. Never have I been happier and more productive and more confident than the day I threw religion out of my life.

There's no logic in religion. You can believe in God, but if I tell you Unicorns are real I'm wrong..

I don't think it's possible for there to be an invisible man in the sky that judges people. Just like I don't think it's possible for there to be a fat man that also judges people and delivers presents to children in one night.

I struggle with the words, but basically I find belief in God illogical. It makes no sense to me how there can be a perfect being within his imperfect creation, not that the universe is a bad place. I have nothing against those who do believe in God, who happen to be very intelligent, but it doesn't make any sense to me.
