[QUOTE="omfg_its_dally"]I would not get on a bus if I saw that on the side. The whole point of the ads is to start controversy.Engrish_MajorAdvertising really affects your life that much? Not advertising: arrogance. Like others have already posted whoever is funding that ad is only doing it to annoy people and cause controversy.

I guess getting to your destination isn't that important then?
[QUOTE="Theokhoth"]That's what I was thinking! I'm Christian, and I enjoy life as much as any "atheist" person. Agreed. I don't see the allure of drugs and alcohol and all that other vice.As if people who believe in God don't enjoy life.
Old news by the way.

i'll get someone to start preaching in the bus and Baptiste the ridersEven though im arguing from the other side of this, i would have to partake in this activity just for the irony it would create.

Well, I think it's a little tactless. I mean, I don't see Christians advertising their churches with, "Believe in God, or you're burn in Hell." Makes the rest of us athiests look bad if you ask me.JustPlainLucasThe statement on the bus and yours is hardly equivalent. Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with the ad.

Also, the statement: ''..and enjoy yourself" is not completely inaccurate.
People discard various pleasures because it is prohibited by their particular religion or belief systems.
BTW, I find it grossly hypocritical that there is all this uproar over one atheist advert despite the innumerable religious advertisements.

Don't see correlation...Atheism isn't a religion. And you can bet your sweet bippy that if a group of meat-eaters had an advertisement made saying, "Vegetables probably suck and may not be good for you. So eat meat, and then one more helping for good measure." PETA would be suing the advertising company, Bus company, and group responsible for the message. The response isn't unreasonable. Also, the statement: ''..and enjoy yourself" is not completely inaccurate.

I never said atheism was a religion -- campaigning for a lack of something is not wholly futile. Also PETA are unreasonable and illogical -- so really their actions aren't really a good standard for everyone else. Also, the statement: ''..and enjoy yourself" is not completely inaccurate.

This will always depend on whom you talk to. In my view, the statement is not correct. Would you care to name some of these so called joys you are thinking of?

[QUOTE="elfimis"]This is two-sided and your making it one sided. Its the exact same thing as when christians promote and go door to door cause they feel your in danger of going to "hell" because you havent accepted Jesus as your lord and savior. SAME THING as athiests promoting to people that they feel the exact opposite and they just dont wanna see you waste your life away over a belief that they strongly feel is false.
Theokhoth
They can't stronglyfeel the belief is false if they simply "lack a belief"; that's the point I'm trying to make. Once they "strongly feel" in any direction, it's no longer a "lack of belief" deal. Nobody argues that Christianity is a "lack of belief," but plenty of people (particularly the ones sponsoring these advertisements) argue that atheism is. It's not as simple as you make it out.
I don't mind atheists knocking on my door and preaching. What I do mind is atheists knocking on my door to preach and then hear them say they don't have anything to preach about.
Your problem is that you simply don't understand atheism.
If theism is the belief in one or more gods, then atheism is the LACK of belief in one or more gods. Therefore, ANYONE who doesn't believe in gods is an atheist.
Now, it's certain that not all atheists are ALIKE, just as not all christians or muslims are alike. Some atheists strongly believe that there is no god, and some atheists simply lack any belief in a god. But in BOTH cases, they do NOT believe in any gods. That's the SINGLE thing that defines an atheist, though not all atheists share the same beliefs.

I chose "Great about time!" but I'm really indifferent. If Christians get their ads, then Atheists can have their ads. I wonder if this will head to the United States.helium_flashI've seen them here in DC.
I've give you a hint about how I feel about it by quoting myself. This quote was written to Christians in regards to this topic.
"In some ways I'd be fine seeing one ride by. Before I'm jumped on let me explain myself. This ad is great for evangelizing purposes. It wouldn't be hard to ask a stranger what they thought about the sign as they saw it and initiate a conversation. Not only that but it causes people to think more about God and be aware of the debate. Also, by the phrasing of the ad, it says there is probably no God. Does that mean there is a chance there is? Talk about this ad with non-believers! Spread the glory of God! Fulfill the Great Commission!"
Btw, atheism must feel threatened if they feel they must resort to this type of "evangelism."
My answer is, "Yay! It's going to start controversy!"

To say God doesn't exist is as ignorant as saying that Unicorns don't exist. You can't prove that they don't, that's why the ad says "probably." Dawkins talked about this.I've give you a hint about how I feel about it by quoting myself. This quote was written to Christians in regards to this topic.

I like it. It's a positive message.Forerunner-117No it's not. This is not a campaign to 'raise awareness,' it seems like a rather poor attempt at offending Christians. I see no purpose for this campaign. They're 'preaching to the choir' with the skeptics and just annoying the theists. If you are going to offend someone, do it right.
