Ok, so obviously leaving out those members of the community who are not, as of yet, legally old enough to drive and/or own a car, I'm thinking of buying a new car soon, and was wondering if anyone has any experience on any of the three cars:

1: 2007 Subaru Impreza 2.5i (wagon or sedan, not decided)

2: 2007 Volkwagen Rabbit 4dr

3: 2007 Ford Focus ZX5 SES

Not the manliest of cars, but fark that, I live in the city and am sick of averaging 21 MPG

though i have never driven any of these cars, my friend did have a focus, he liked and had the manual trans, it was a quick Little car and he never had problems with it, of those choices i would say focus just because it was a good car to my buddy, also, it would be the cheapest of those choices so you could probably get a loaded focus for the same price or cheaper than a stripped down version of the others

Needs more Mercedes and Lexus. The next car I'm going to get is probably going to be a Honda Accord. My first car was that, and I want another one.

Ok, so, still not so contructive. Is there anyone out there who can actually answer the question, of having experiences with any of these? Like, who have ACTUALLY driven them?

Trying to keep it around $18k with good gas mileage and decent space. Not really into the new Civic that much, and the three big japanese hatchbacks (Fit, Versa, Yaris) don't really do much for me either.

In terms of interior quality and comfort, you're probably going to get the most for your money with the Rabbit, but VWs and Audis are also notorious for mechanical issues early on in their lifespan. In my Jetta VR6, the engine coil, fuel pump hose (although it was probably chewed through by mice), and the brake-pressure sensor all needed replacement within 1000 miles of each other. Once you've had it for a couple years, the problems seem to die down quite considerably, but they're still there in the beginning.

I don't really have a valid opinion about the Focus or the Impreza, but of all my friends who drive Subarus, I've never once heard any of them complain.

That's funny. My mom's didn't. 14,000 miles driven and it runs as good as new. I don't know where you get your 'facts'. Anyway, I would go with the VW only because it is actually reliable and looks a lot better than the other choices.

So you're using one example to disprove a concept about many? That's not a logical fallacy or anything...

And look it up anywhere, VWs and Audis have lots of problems, but that doesn't mean your mom's had to. 14,000 miles isn't a considerable number, either. I'm talking up to like 70,000.

It's kind of like what you were doing. "my car started having problems early, so yours will too." I don't really take those types of surverys seriously. Most of the time, it turns out to be untrue.

Would you be happy if I said from my experience, VWs don't seem to be entirely reliable throughout their lifespan? Hmm?

It's not an issue of a Civic being any more expensive, I just don't really want a Civic

Um actualy a lot of VW's do have problems, and many think they are an expensive import when they are not made in germany anymore, imo they are faroverrated.

The cheaper ones are being manufactured in South America. But the expensive ones are still being made in Germany. Unreliability will be judged on your own experience, as for me...I live in Germany and own a VW and I have no problem with it what-so-ever.

If I'm interested enough to ask about people's experience with them and am considering buying one, clearly exterior looks is something I've already considered and am fine with. Also, they're not grandmother cars, they're small, inexpensive, practical cars that plenty of people drive. If I wanted looks, I'd stick with the Mustang that's draining my pockets.

Well it looks like a grandmother car to me. plus I have some co-workers beside me that agree. You wanted OTHERS opinions on the cars you shown. It may be "inexpensive" and "practical" but it doesnt change the fact that i think you should reconsider getting somthing else. I would never be seen driving those. Unless I was in my late 60's:)

Have you looked into the Mazda 3? they are pretty highly rated from many credible sources, easy on the gas and within your budget, and with a sedan and a 5 door hatch you have some options there as well, i only bring it up due to the negative responses to the ones you listed

I had actually not, but that is an interesting option
