*Looks at article* Ahh, South Australia and Michael Atkinson. That's the equivalent of someone like Jack Thompson making decisions.
Ok, lets clear some things up. Firstly, it's not a ban, it's covering up the packaging. Secondly, it's not Australia, it's a state. Thirdly, I can't wait until that ****er Atkinson gets out of a job ... he is the sole reason why we don't get R18+ games in Australia.
It's bad but it doesn't effect me.
The world is getting worse, there's nothing more terrible than a government trying to tell you what you should or shouldn't be doing with your time.
What next? Art? Music? Film a form of entertainment and art in itself and nobody has a right to force their will on others.
It's appalling how censorship is taking over Australia. This is just an extension of the Clean Feed, which I'm sure you Australians all know of.
Trying to block sites like 4 you know what is one thing, but my god.

Agreed. If government intervention and censorship keep going this way, I dont think ill have any regrets for moving away in a few years :/ things just seem to be getting worse.
This is the first i have heard of this new law (onyl passed in South Australia) I can't stand the ever increasing nature of this government as a whole leaning towards censorship which is really quite disturbing. Hopefully in the coming elections Micheal Attkinson will be voted out and we can stop hearing of his stupidity and down right discrimination against not only gamers but adults in general.
R-rated games are banned, in the US system the rating would be between an M and an AO. Most games that would be rated R get through on an MA (which is legal.) Also, South Australia is not the rest of the country. Don't throw us Australian Capital Terrtorians in with that mob :PArent Rated M games banned there too?
So glad the gf and I did not move to Australia
Crimtmp
what pansies we are... this is kind of like a step to banning them entirely, like smoking...harden the ****up.
Unnecessary really. I mean, assuming the angle they are taking is that kids won't know the films exists (except they will because they have internet access) and so won't be tempted by the evils within it...
What crap, firstly, the effect on children (more specifically, the teenage audiences that want to see R-rated content with no rhyme or reason and are more likely too, because what sort of parent shows an R-rated film to a 4 year old) is next to none. Proof? I was shown films with violent content at a relatively young age, and I have not had any mental issues as a result, I am not a disturbed sadomasochistic sex maniac who shoots heroin instead of eating breakfast and steals cars to pay for my habit. Because I live in the real world.
Secondly, the potential drop in money being earned by the film industry as a result is vast, people say copyright infringement and illegal downloading cause problems and make the industry lose money everyday, well, while they may save on advertising revenue, it is also entirely possible that they may lose audiences of adults who should freely be allowed to make choices on what they see. And I can guarantee there are adults who base their rental or purchase choices on what the packaging of a film has to offer.
What's wrong with Michael Atkinson?RK-MaraHe's Australia's answer to Jack Thompson, except instead of a lawyer he's the SA Attorney General.
Maybe Jack Thompson should go to Australia (I know he's old news, but still worth mentioning). Anyway, restricting the sales of R-rated/R18 movies is a useless move that does not allow people to make their own decisions in terms of what they watch. Its like the Australian government is trying to make these choices for the people.

MushroomWig
Australia does have a history of censoring or banning music actually.
