For a Hollywood blockbuster it was great imo.
Not the best movie ever as some say, but it was very entertaining.
I mainly watch Foreign flicks, but Avatar I enjoyed.

Wow, Avatar haters, it must be hard for you all to watch it going into its eighth week still in first place? The movie was amazing. I don't know anyone that hasn't thought so. Then again, I've always noticed that a lot of Gamespotters don't like things just because others DO.cheeseloverGood God, I missed this post. How well a movie does at the box office means nothing to me, unless the movie was made by a relatively new director, and I like his style and what him to do well. Why would Avatar's tremendous success bug us? I can conclude for myself that the movie is garbage; the fact that millions of others loved and continue to love it won't change my mind on that.
I am mildly excited. I liked the first one because of its outstanding visuals, but the story was pretty weak and cliched so unless they come up with a whole new set of impressive visuals that will "revolutionize" the movie industry, I will stay home for this one.

I liked the effects. So did I. But I agree with you. If the movie wasn't so hyped, I would have appreciated it more. I expected an original storyline considering it was hyped for 6 months. >.>
As much as I like the first movie, despite all the problems it has, I don't see the point in Cameron throwing out a sequel. I heard at least 30-40 minutes of original scenes were cut out that clarified more things in the story and that were important as well. This was the same thing that happened to Kingdom of Heaven when I saw it in theaters. Ridley Scott cut out maybe at least 30-60 minutes of footage(I can't remember the exact number). My god, when I bought the extended edition and saw it for the first time, I thought how much of a masterpiece the original movie was. The theater version was crappy and convulated compared to the original movie in its entirety. I'm hoping the "original" Avatar will be a masterpiece unlike its theatrical release, which left me wanting more explanations and answers. In this case, I can hardly wait for the extended version, if it ever gets released. I feel that until I see the original movie I won't be able to make a clear judgment as to whether there should be a sequel or not.
