Isn't this what those "extended edition" DVDs are supposed to be for?

In any event, I tend to avoid "extended edition" versions of movies anyways. There's usually a reason those "added scenes" didn't make the final cut the first time around. Not only do they add nothing to the movie, they actually have a tendency to detract from the film quite often. So, no thanks.

It's pretty silly, they're only re-releasing it because it has 9 more minutes of footage. At least those who haven't seen it will be able to see it now.

The longer this thread goes the longer the supposed minutes added keeps increasing. From 7 than someone said 8 now someone said 9.:P

For a movie that is supposedly going to be remembered forever for how it changed cinema, Avatar's producers sure are desperate to try and rekindle its fifteen minutes of fame.

9 minutes of "extra" footage is included. Why? They already put out all the DVDs and BRs...

This movie has such a strong following that people will definitely pay for the extra 7minutes.

Wait, I'm paying 10 bucks in IMAX to see a three hour movie that I've already seen, and THEN an extra 7 WHOLE MINUTES, about the two main characters having sex. Uhh, no.

Fox must really want to break the 3 billion gross mark...

Sadly, this stunt will likely do that.

I'm well aware of that. What I tried (and apparently failed) to imply with my post was that this release should just be made for the "extended" DVD, rather than going through the whole theater rout again...

I saw the movie twice.. I don't see why I would want to see it again in the theater so soon especially if its only for a extra 7 minutes.. I was expecting a half hour.. Though I DO wish they would do this more often, re-release older movies back into the theater to watch again... I would love to see movies like Back to the Future, Aliens, Indiana Jones Last Crusade, Patton, Dr. Strangelove, Dragonslayer, and many more movies in the theater again.

This. I would love to see Star Wars in the cinema as long as they played the original release of the movies without all the changes.

I saw it when it was out in 3D IMAX. I had smoked some very strong rolled cigarettes for the first time in years before I went to see it, so I barely remember it. All I remember is being amazed.

Why couldn't just release a special edition for the DVD and Blueray? Is it really necessary for them to re-release back into theaters. I didn't think Avatar was even that good. I liked Sherlock Holmes batter than avatar.

I've already seen it in theaters twice, and paying another 15 bucks to see 7 extra minutes is a bad deal imo. So no

I'm willing to bet that those who want to see the sex scene are just going to watch it on YouTube(you know it's inevitable, I watched a Karate Kid 2010 scene there) or will pirate the movie instead of seeing it again.

It's not worth it, wow seven extra minuets that you will barely even notice.
