It was a decent movie. I'll just remember it for its awesome visuals.

Gaming-Planet
This. I won't forget it because it will be on my list of most overrated movies of all time. Oh and since when are Catch Me if You Can and Gangs of New York classics? Talk about garb. If it wasn't for Daniel Day Lewis, Gangs of New York wouldn't be worth watching at all. Leo and Diaz still managed to ruin that movie.

As a movie probably not, but as a stepping stone I think so.

[QUOTE="Mousetaches"]I was bored with Avatar within the first half hour. I think Avatar is an example of a writer/producer becoming too involved with the other processes (directing, editing, etc).

I've.....Never......Seen....it.....

Avatar deserves to be remembered for it's amazing effects. I however will probably not remember much about the story or characters. I still liked it but there are many other films that I find more memorable. Heck the amount of amazing films from out decade easily makes me forget about Avatar.

Whilst everyone has their own opinion, I disagree. Even from a pure technological standpoint it is the first film to push 3-D technology into the forefront of films. It'll be remembered by film buffs similar to how gamers remember Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time.

I found the 3-D to be underwhelming. The hype was so enormous that my expectations were way too high. I left thinking, 'That was it?'

Ow... i kind of laughed at the trailer...
So it's actually good?

Ow wait, THAT avatar.
Hmm i haven't seen it in 3D so won't comment.
Safe for saying that the rest wasn't exactly special.
What they did do well was create that whole world vibe.

I have to admit, the visuals were probably best thing about it. In a few years time, when they become the norm, it wont seem as amazing as it did the first time. But on a non-adjusted list, its still the highest grossing film of all time. So I doubt it will be forgotten.

I agree. Sure the technology was great but I think someone will make a far better movie with the same technology that will void Avatar.

Titanic had something that Avatar didnt though: solid actors with solid performances, that can make a movie way more memorable.

Given the technology behind it, it won't be forgotten. Whether you liked it or not, the movie was a cultural phenomenon, carving itself its own spot in the history of film as mainly an imaginative, visuals splendor. Also, as much as I dislike to say it, The Hurt Locker seems more likely to not stand the test of time, despite it being a best picture winner. I just don't like the fact that Cameron received nearly unanimous praise from his last two films, which were his weakest. In my eyes, he's yet to top his earlier work.

I already forgot about it. I walked out after an hour and a half. The story was incredibly awful, and 3D is a gimmick.

not only did i walk out, i took someone else with me as i did it, effectively doubling the statement. The story was below incredibly awful, you are flattering it now. It was physically painful to endure, and not only is 3D a gimmick, i think it's a deception to make the sheeple forget the poor plot and subpar acting. *walks out of thread*

yeah, i'm pre-emptive like that. I don't bother to remove the pictures after i've posted them tho, since i figure if anyone actually did want to photoshop 'em, they'd have 'em saved on their hdd or imagerelated online account before the thread dies out.

Just because people don't talk about Titanic anymore doesn't mean it has failed to stand the test of time. Avatar was such a big movie in terms of it being THE film to propogate 3D visuals and the biggest grossing film in history. So in terms of its accomplishments it won't be forgotten, though its narrative is pathetic.

I loved the film and definitely not forget it due to its unique characters and setting.
