Well, it seems that America finally recognises my country as an ally again! Thanks!
20 years ago New Zealand was no longer welcome in joint military exercises and opperations and having a free-trade deal put on indefinite hiatus for the hienous crime of refusing US nuclear-powered battleships in our main commercial habour, which is also incidentally hundreds of meters from residential and commercial districts of our largest city.
I doubt anyone even knows this occured. I mean why would you? We've only ever been good for giving free land to the CIA so they can build high-powered radar and satilite monitoring stations on our mainland, not trade partners; I mean DAMN, our GDP is barely even enough to support the placement of missile silos (which apparently back during the good old days, our chums the US government asked if we wanted some silos in our backyard).
So today, when Condee came to government house and let slip that the Whitehouse now regards us as an ally and quickly jumped to the next topic, I almost spluttered.
Are you kidding me? 20 ****ing years of quietly telling my nation to go **** itself and suddenly we are buddies again, and all because we wouldn't let you park your nuclear ships in our habour during the height of the cold war?
Thanks heaps, mate.
