Remember in the 2004 elections that little letter from Cardinal Ratzinger that some Democrats blamed for costing them the election. Well now Cardinal O'Malley is criticizing them. He said that voting for a pro-choice politician (most of them are Dems) "borders on scandal"

John Kerry didn't lose in 04 because of a letter from Cardinal Ratzinger. John Kerry lost in 04 because he is John Kerry.

Nobody remembers that. But if you look at the demographics, more Catholics actually voted for Kerry than Bush. After all, Kerry is a Catholic.

really I thought most of them voted for Bush. Kerry is banned from receiving communion because he has blood on his hands.

Honestly, this race does remind me a lot of 2004 for some reason.

It seemed like there was no way Kerry could lose. He actually ran on very similar things that Obama is running on. We all saw what happened.

Obama doesn't appear to be radically changing his stance on issues. We all know that happened with Kerry.

Because it's common sense. What would a Cardinal be doing wasting time with a bunch of nerds on Gamespot?

Really? I had no faith in Kerry winning. Every president has been re-elected when theres a war going on, unfortunatley.

I doubt this will get much coverage. "Borders on scandal" isn't as bold a statement as you think. Pro life/pro choice is such a hot topic but I doubt the statements will make much of a difference, simply because it's a religious official.

Well, he ain't the pope. My point is, he is making a decision based off a religious organization's will and not the will of the people. The same people who vote and opinion matters.

Actually kerry lost in '04 because republicans rallied behind the idea of stopping gays from getting the right to marry, after several organizations launching huge campaigns, enough fence sitters were brought to the side of the republicans.

I do think that was somewhat of a reflection upon history, republicans did the same thing between the late '40s and late '60s where they were able to rally the republican party against minorities.

It will make a difference in the election since over 20% of voters are catholic, if a high ranking official, the cardinal tells them reasons why not to vote for a particular canidate most will listen.. which yes equals bad news for Democrats.
