People here probably are starting to hear of them because I mention them all the time, but I think they just may have the most talented guitarist around today.
Odious Mortem
skullkrusher13
they're pretty good but i think decrepit birth is better though
but i would say internal bleeding is a good band that no one has never heard of
Job for a Cowboy
Entombent of a MAchine
-Only for those who enjoy squealing and screaming
As Blood Runs Black
-Same thing
Scouting For Girls
-British indie
When people think "grunge" they think Nirvana. Its too bad that most of the time they completely miss out on Soundgarden.foxhound_fox
Who in the hell is missing out on Soundgarden?

The vocals just aren't my s tyle I've been trying to get into them for awhile, just can't.
Unexpect.MissRiotmaker

yeah they were my favorite band for awhile until they kicked their incredible drummer out, and their new stuff is mediocre.

I didn't like them at first but I like em now. Then again you said you have been trying for a while so I am guessing thats not gonna change.
Oh well, maybe they will switch it up with the new album like Protest the Hero is. I must say Protest has improved 10 fold with their 2 new songs. His heavier vocal ****really works well.

I remember hearing them awhile ago and hated it (mostly due to the vocals I'm just really picky with vocalists, they prohibit me from digging the music, its distracting).
Hmm, I'll check em out later.

If you want overlooked bands from that era then I definitely think Alice In Chains is the definitive band. I gaurantee most people have heard that bands music, yet they don't know anything of the band.
Another band that fits that Alice in Chains category would be Daft Punk. I hadn't realized it untill checking out peoples music suggestions on here, but I actually had heard and enjoyed 3 or 4 tracks on Discovery without knowing it....

If you are reffering to Protest, then just listen to their new song Bloodmeat. That song, Sequia Throne, and Heretics and Killers (only old song of theirs I like) show how awesome the band can be. I am definitely buying their new album Fortress when it comes out on the 29th.

Daft has one incredible album and that is Discovery. I just posted One More Time because that was their most popular song. Personally, I think Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (Yeah, Kanye ruined this song) and Face to Face are their 2 best songs.
Innaway - the lack of coverage these guys get is criminal. I haven't met one person that has not only liked them but become fans after hearing them. Yet I've tried recommending them in here a number of times to no success. If you have the slightest interest in rock in the vein of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd etc. then do yourself and me a favour and check them out. They are, in my opinion, the best band in the world at the moment and I think their new record will cement this. Beat the bandwagon.
Let's see here, let me list a few. Note: These bands are popular among certain groups, but not among the general public. Many are long known bands, and it is a damned shame they aren't widely known. I'm sure some of these you will disagree with, but trust me, these are not well known among the general public from what I've seen.
Miles Davis
Marcus Miller
Jurassic 5
Hieroglyphics
John Coltrane
Mastadon
Primus
The Electric Six (sort of good, and not very well known)
Zimbabwe Legit/OUO (same people, different name)
Nevermore (worst band on the list as far as I'm concerned)
Garry Glitter
And when I say "insane," I don't mean "insanely good."A_Tarkovsky
Yeah......
He likes the kiddies a little too much.....

How dare you call Nevermore the worst band on that list!!!! They are AWESOME!!! Definitely kick Mastadon's ass!!!
Suicidal Tendencies=awesome, yet overlooked.....hillelslovak
lmao
Yeah, they are decently well-known now because that song was in Guitar Hero 2. Damn I never did 5 star that on expert now that I think about it....

Rediculous. Absolutely rediculous! RAWR. But seriously, it's the vocals that bring down Nevermore for me, plus I like the style of Mastadon more, it's more....well, I guess classic rock style.

Yeah, that isnt one of their better songs. I like their stuff from the 1990's, which nobody listens to.

Warrel Dane is an awesome vocalist I think. His opera training makes his singing soo much more interesting then other bands. It is great because he doesn't completely overdue like Bruce Dickenson and the like. I can't stand those annoying high-pitched just to be high-pitched vocals. Then again I love me some Muse....
Anyways, if you like Mastadon then I recommend checking out The Dillinger Escape Plan. I have seen the bands compared, but for now I am just sticking with my awesome Dillinger Escape Plan.
Novembers Doom and Daylight Dies are fantastic bands.
blooddemon666
I found out about Novembers Doom because they're similar to Opeth. And they're pretty mainstream these days.
Some other indie bands I like are: Beyon-D-lusion, Sage and Holy Moses.

No, the games have been a huge sucess which means the band is far from overlooked. They just aren't a particularly good band....

I OBVIOUSLY know about Dillinger Escape Plan. But for me, I don't like them. I have a pretty narrow range of vocals I can tolerate, and Dilinger Escape Plan is just outside that zone. Strangely enough, Warrel Dane is inside that range. I never said it was bad, just that I prefer Mastadon due to the instrumentals.
