And you think the politicians that admit they haven't read the bill 'understand'?

I would say better than someone silly enough to hold up that sign.

Better than the people at the townhall meetings. And just out of curiosity, which politicians are you referring to?

Well, This guy, for one. There's clearly a problem with the bill if it's causing this much controversy. No one can seem to explain the bill contents to the American people without spinning it to their side of the argument. If Congress actually read and understood what the bill entailed, they could've avoided this whole situation by being clear, concise, and honest with the constituents instead of attempting to cram it down our throats.

But then who knows, maybe they'd try to hire a speed reader in case someone requested the bill be read aloud in session.

He's not EXACTLY like Hitler but he is a Dictator. HE goes on T.v. and holds conferences to dumb down and make fools out of normal American Citizens that are ticked off because he screwed them over.

Xx_Hopeless_xX

Holding press conferences =/= Being a dictator

He's held what..5 in 6 months?..Each time someone opposes him he feels the need to mock them in said conferences...i'm not starting a fight on this board..im clearly outnumbered when it comes to political views..plus i don't really pay enough attention to politics to have an argument..so i'm just putting my opinion out there..

And there are also his weekly addresses! JUST LIKE HITLER :o

Conyers point, while he didn't really articulate it all that well, is entirely legitimate. If congressmen had to read every bill that is voted on they would be doing nothing but reading bills. That's why they and their congressional staffers cut it up and read pieces of the bill and then they write up a summary of the bill. There is really not a problem with the bill per se, but rather the promoting of the bill that is causing so much controversy. It is a PR problem, not a legislative problem.

The house bill is pretty straight forward. It contains regulations to prevent insurance companies from cheating the system and cherry pick the healthy while not covering the sick, an individual mandate so individuals don't cheat the system and only get insurance once they get sick, employer mandates so employers don't just drop their coverage and flood everyone into the public option, a public option to compete with the insurance companies, and subsidies so everyone can afford purchasing health insurance. It gets a little wonkish but that is the bill.

I don't like Obamas new "Healthcare Plan". He's essentially telling us to Euthanize the elderly, I for one do not feel like meeting with a guy for 6 months that tells me how I should die.:?

Snipes_2

First off, there is no provision in the bill that tries to euthanize elderly. Second, if you don't WANT to meet with an end of life consuelor you don't have to. Third, I highly doubt there's anyone out there who wouldn't want end of life consueling. It's not euthanaisa, it's talking to a specialist about issues like DNRs and the tough choices that naturally come with that stage of life. My grnadparents' generation on my dad's side is stringently Catholic and would be appalled at the prospect of euthanasia, but the people who were at that stage of life still had end of life consueling not because they were planning to be euthanized but because it's a pretty standard and helpful thing at that stage in life.

He never answered her question though..all he did was insult her..Xx_Hopeless_xX

She asked a gay Jewish man why he supported the first black president of the United States on a, "Nazi policy," I think that's pretty deserving of insult. What Frank said was spot on, she was comparing expanding health coverage to the genocide of over six million people, she deserved to be insulted for that. By the way, what question did she ask? A Nazi policy, what nazi policy? She didn't even specify what policy she was referring to. She wasn't looking for an answer to a question, she was trying to spread propaganda and Frank saw that and responded in kind.

Yes...saying things like that to YOUR constituents is awesome...how professional of Barney... I guess it was fine when people compared Bush to Nazis though...

If there's 3 people I could punch in the face in Congress, it would be Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, and Chris Dodd. Three of the most corrupt politicians in Washington.

And all of his supporters that I know do not know anyting about his politics, its just he is a great president for whatever reason and if you question him you are wrong.

Well yeah, when he was getting elected some people were interviewed and they didn't even know about his policies..

Howard Stern (who I never watch) but I saw where he did a thing and went around asking people how they felt about Palin being Obamas vice...and the people had no idea that it was all a joke and they responded usually with "uhhh you know I think she would do great for the country...uhhhh she is a great person" LOLOLOL

That was Sal from the Howard Stern show. It just goes to show you how clueless some people are.

For one, we don't know if that lady was a constiuent or not. These people so far have proven to not be who they say they are. The one lady that didn't know if her family had a net income of over $250,000, the one that said she never got involved in politics before health care, ran a conservative political forum and has been a conservative activist for years. Frankly, I think many of these people are simply civilian carpetbaggers who are going to democratic strongholds and trying to generate unrest by using unsubstantiated buzz words like, "Nazi," and, "death panel."

Second, these people need to be put in their place. There are legitimate concerns that can be raised over the legislation, but they should be raised in a more formal matter than this. What these people are doing is undermining intelligent discussion. They have no organized opinion other than opposing health care, although for what reason no one, sometimes not even they themselves, seems to know. They go to these places and try to shout down anyone who disagrees with them, they take up all of the time that was allotted for discussion of the actual bill and specific policies, they use sensationalism based in absolutely no fact at all, it's just one giant detraction from the actual issue. They don't want a discussion, they don't want their concerns to be addressed in a civil manner, they just want to sit there and interrupt the proceedings. They SHOULD be called out on that. When what they say is being played out on a national stage, and when their claims are patently untrue, and when they will accept no compromise other than complete derailment of health care reform, then they absolutely should be called out on that. Was anything Frank said untrue? Is comparing health care reform to Nazi Germany not one of the most ludacris claims ever? Had he tried to argue with her, would she have accepted anything he had to say, or would it be like arguing with a table? Did she go there to argue, or to simplyhave her misguided opinion heard? Well good, she had her opinion heard, and then Frank let her and everyone else know what his opinion is. But I guess turnabout isn't fairplay, huh? The fact is that if we are going to hold our representatives to such standards of not saying anything that even approaches insulting, and I still don't think what Frank said is any more insulting than what was deserved, but if we're going to hold them to those standards then we should at least have the decency to hold ourselves to similar standards of not speaking with the express purpose of trying to anger and undermine those representatives, which is exactly what she was doing. But again, I wouldn't expect dissent from such behavior and opinions from someone who levels accusations of corruption at politicians with no factual basis simply because they have a different political alignment than him.

They do read the bills...along with their respective staffers. The legislative process is more than just reading bills. There needs to be congressional hearings, the bills need to be drafted, they need to go through all the respective committees, they need to be debated on on the floor, the need to be voted on, they often need to be reconciled in a conference committee, and then they have to be voted on again. To have the congressmen and only the congressmen alone read the bills is highly inefficient - they would not be able to legislate - they'd be nothing more than members of some weird, wonkish book club.

Sometimes its better to lie than to tell the truth. Since the well being of the economy is entirely based on our faith in the economy, he was trying to restore people's faith, and hence avoid an economic recession. Unfortunately the media grabbed the recession story and ran to Hell and back with it, which is one of the reasons our economy tanked the way it did. Point being, yes he did lie, but it was with the economy's best interest at heart.

The government does such a wonderful job with everything they do. They have the midas touch indeed. Why would someone not want them involved in life or death situations in their own lives? Surely the government's main concern is their well-being and quality of care. People will recieve the best care that can be had. They'll be treated better than the government officials themselves without question. I can't fathom the thought of anyone thinking the government would lie to them. Look at the stimulus program. Nothing but absolute success. The US is leading the way out of the economic crisis.

These people are so misinformed they really should rounded up and re-educated on the intellectual prowess that our government possesses.

How dare someone doubt Obama? He's the greatest president this country has ever known.

I think he's just a puppet for the Illuminate. It all makes sense... The aliens don't want us to be concerned about them taking over the Earth in 2012 so they hire the Illuminate to train and prepare Barack Obama for the presidency. They pay McCain to have Palin as a running mate, guaranteeing Obama a win. Obama wins the presidency, pisses off the the Republicans. They whine like sore losers and cause a scene. Obama presses on and tries to calm the masses with his sexy soothing voice. All the while Joe Biden, the real President and member of the Illuminate makes a deal with the aliens to take the Illuminate to a colonized Mars where they can avoid total destruction in 2012. Why can't people wake up and see the truth?!

There's a difference between finding fault in your President and accusing him/comparing him to a internationally known former dictator who started the murder of 6 million Jews. I agreed with hardly any of Bush's policies, but I would never stoop so low as to degrade his character or wish ill harm. I feel sorry for people like you. :|

Questioning government action is fine with me so long as you're not defacing pictures of the commander-in-chief to look like Adolf Hitler He isn't perfect but that's just ridiculous. She might have gotten a respectful answer had she not stooped to the level of elementary school yearbook defacement.

I couldn't decide who was worse, but at least barney was finally able to converse with someone at his own level.

They SHOULD be called out on that. theone86
I could not agree more. Now, if only the ones with the legitimate concerns would be willing to help shutting up people like that... after all, if the only opposing opinions that are ever heard are the ones comparing the president to a genocidal maniac and his policies to the holocaust, while they call him a socialist, how willing are we going to be to listen to the intelligent ones, if they ever manage to get some air time? They'll be lumped in with the uneducated nutcases, and ignored just like the crazies are. Also, note for all detractors: Socialism and nazism are not exactly similar, and the Obama health care plan is not socialist. Feel free to google the words and find out what they actually mean. :)

It just goes to show that Barney is clueless. He didn't even answer her question. Why anyone votes this guy in election after election is beyond me.

Cause she's an idiot, trying to talk to an ignorant idiot is like he said, trying to argue with a dining table. Barney just went up in my books.

It's just so ironic that joke came from Barney himself. He doesnt know a thing about economics, yet he's on the financial committee.

The question itself was an insult. She's asking a fat, gay Jew why he's supporting a Nazi party position/death panels. I saw this video yesterday, and it left me in a happy, cheerful mood all day long. There's nothing wrong with calling crazy what it is.

why would he answer a question like that? Anyone who actually thinks Obama is Hitler and has Nazi policies don't deserve to be answered too. Especially considering She was asking a Jewish man. Its not even like Obama is right wing to begin with. The comparison makes absolutely no sense whatsoeverand seems more like attempted fear-mongering than an actual question. At least someone like Stalin has some sort of connection. But Hitler Like he said, trying to argue with someone who believes that Obama is actually Hitler will be impossible to even remotely change their opinion as they're set on that ridiculous idea.
