True, true. But wouldn't it be more wrong to get off from, say, bestiality, than being asexual? There have been proof of people leading happier lives throughout history, who did not have sexual relations with anyone. Read: eunuchs.Deihjan
That's certainly up for debate. I think to repress sexual desires, or for them to be absent to begin with, is worse than any kind of "deviation", because like I said, sex is the sole purpose nature has for us; it's one of the most deeply rooted parts of our nature. Just like eating or sleeping, we really don't have a choice (biologically speaking). So I think it's better for that primeval drive to be there, even if it's "misdirected", if you will, than for it to not be there at all.
As for the eunuch argument. The problem is that our large brains allow us to start coming up with purposes other than that which nature intended, which is simply to breed and pass our genetic material on to the next generation. We start focusing on different things; searching for "deeper" meanings, like intellectual growth or spiritual enlightenment, or even the acquisition of material objects. All of those things have the potential to provide us with the instinctive and more primitive "fulfillment" our biological imperative would, which means if an individual excels in one or more of these "fields", he might find enough satisfaction to not need the others anymore.
Which leads me right back to where I started: I think a compelling argument can be made for both sides; I just happen to lean more towards the thought that any kind of sexual desire is preferable to it's absence because I don't believe any one of the "fields" I mentioned should have dominance over the others. I believe a complete man is one that nurtures body, mind and soul equally; not one who neglects the others in favor of a single one.
So, just to give an example, I don't believe that whole theory that in order to achieve enlightenment one has first to attain "purity", and that the way to do this is by neglecting the body (or "flesh", as they like to call it) as much as possible, because any kind of carnal satisfaction is somehow "impure", and thus indulging in the plasures of the body will result in "defilement" and damnation. I just don't buy any of that, so that's my reasoning. :P
