Mace is a brand. If you're gonna call one Mace you might as well call the other Def-tec or ASP or whatever other brand name you can find. But CS sprays are rightfully refered to as mace since Mace was th first and is the most commonly used CS spray.
There's no reason to use bear mace on a person. Being that it's CS and it's designed to incapacitate a bear it would probably kill a person.
I prefer CS over OC any day. Capsicum is just capsicum but CS will take anyone down because that stuff shuts you down while pepper spray just burns.
I think you are confusing bear pepper with riot pepper. Riot pepper comes in a large canister that looks a paint gun and it has far more range than the smaller canisters.
Bear pepper is just a higher percentage of capsicum than what is sold on the civilian market for self-defense. There is person pepper spray that is like 20%-30% and great capsicum but it's not commonly used plus it's restricted. So really they just call it bear spray to tell you that they made it for you to use on a bear or other wild animal. The have found 10% to be more than enough on a human. I remember just getting some residue from the box they game in and not being able to breath well. So I'm sure if a person inhales enough of that stuff they could suffocate.
They've been making 5.5% because 10% has been lethal in the past so nobody wants the liability. Also another reason why they makes streams, gels and foams now. So this way you can get their eyes without the risk of them inhaling too much.
The propper way to use Pepper Spray is to get up close and spray their eyes like your spray painting a wall. But people that don't practice using it don't do it. They spray here and there then run around franticly.
