Because then there's a bias and hence the re-education part.

What, so do you expect professors to be apolitical? That's ridiculous.

Also, professors being outspoken about their liberal views/=/re-education.

My experience has been most college professors do not insert their political views into their lectures... discussion-based classes will more commonly offer political opinions but they'll always be open to discussion/debate.

But the thing is, that there's absolutely no balance of the schools. More are Liberal and it puts Conservatives at a halt when choosing a college... Its kinda sad. I have to really be stuck on my beliefs when I go to the college I want to. (UCLA, but i don't know if its true.)

[QUOTE="Chrypt22"]

[QUOTE="theone86"]

Yes, that makes perfect sense, radicalism starts in a place that tries to teach logic and objective learning, not, say, on a show that masquerades as an etnertainment show as a way to deflect objections despite clearly being a platform from which to spread political views that are often radically charged and completely sensational. Statements like that demonstrate the need for universities in the first place.

topgunmv

No. While some Universities try to teach objectively that is far from the norm. Everyone I have known that has gone to college has had a handful of whacked out professors sit up there and preach their political agenda. While every professor isnt like that, there are a lot that do. To reitterate my last post I had a business ethics teacher that used the class to preach Communism. I had an economics teacher tell people if you drove a certain car not to come back. People tend to forget the CU professor that preached in his classes that America was evil and that we deserved 9/11. It isnt any secret that a lot of colleges have a liberal agenda, and thats just an accepted fact...

With that said, to say that they are "re-education" camps is absured, but beck feeds off the attention comments like that gives him.

Honestly, I believe that most intelligent people will not sit there and listen and believe everything that is regurgitated from a professors mouth, and if they do then they really shouldnt be in college, McDonalds would be a better fit. The people that do sit there and believe whatever they are told are just as bad as the hardcore Beck followers.

It's a good argument that the tenure system has to be re-evaluated, I've heard too many cases of students being penalized for the wrong reasons.

Chrypt has a point, but those professors aren't really the norm, at least not in my experience. Beck is being dramatic and hyperbolic for all of the very obvious reasons, but there is some validity in his argument; he just has a poor choice of words, hahahaha. From my experience the amount of that type of atmosphere, of professors (and lecturers, assistants, etc.) espousing their "liberal" agenda or bias, is correlated by college (Arts and Science, Business, Fine Arts...) and department, sometimes in both directions (though more to the left). I don't think it goes quite as far as necessitating re-evaluating the tenure system, I find that lecturers express their bias more than tenured professors anyway.

They are in a sense but it a vague sense. It's not an elaborate conspiracy. If you were to tell people they are being unwittingly influenced by the people who fund those universties they wouldn't beleieve it.

Comparing liberals to hitler and stalin is faulty. They are not 'liberals' but examples of brutal, sociopathic dictators. To pretend that they somehow lie on the political spectrum like any other normal politician is folly.

[QUOTE="kayoticdreamz"] because liberal = communism/fascism/socialism. 3 big liberals are stalin hitler castro. so supporting those 3 or their idealogy i think we can all call stupid. so if most teachers are liberal i think that might be a bad thing. conversvatives havent killed millions liberals have.kayoticdreamz

Liberalism is not the same as communism/fascism/socialism, nor are those three things the same... so your comments about liberals killing many/liberals being stupid/etc. are not in any way valid...

actually they are. liberals like government to have control over everything. welfare food stamps endless laws. the three mentioned governments all have large amoutns of control. people on the right oppose this idea. liberals say the more government the better. an example of a large government was stalin controlling everything much liek how congress today tries to control everything. at the end of the day people in russia were waiting in line for food which can be called welfare. at the end of stalins reighn millions died via an overcontrolling government. conservative = small government liberal = large government. hitler came along and said lets start marking businesses lets then start marking the ones that are jewish owned. lets then say people dont have property rights and move the jews to their own little area. lets gain enough control to slaughter millions in camps. castro controls nearly everything healthcare food workers pay. we just pased health care, we have welfare, and we have minimum wage? at all in way familar to what castro did? dont give me we havent killed millions here yet speech im sayign the ideas are similar enough to warrant alarm this is a brief summary.

First of all, liberals are not for large government for the sake of large government. Liberals want to grow government in certain areas and shrink it in others. This is true of conservatives as well as much as some of you will hate to admit it.

Your logic in comparing Hitiler Castro and Stalin to liberalism is absurd. Just because their regimes had a tyrannical sort of government structure does not make it in anyway comparable to a liberal's vision of big government, which does not have the same policies whatsoever.

Comparing to unlike things by citing tenuous connections is intellectual dishonesty. Welfare and the healthcare we passed and all that has no resemblance to Hitler and Stalin and Castro. I think you realize this, but you just want to create some sort of cheap dramatic point about big government.

That's a gross oversimplification. You present a false dichotomy of "large government" versus "small government" (where you present the idea of "large government" as essentially socialist, which our government is not). I know of no liberal who believes "the more government the better." I certainly don't. The comparison to Stalin is invalid because the United States has both public and private industry; not all industry is controlled by the government, nor does the government set quantities of goods which industries must produce. Congress does not try "to control everything." The people waiting in line for food in Russia was due to how food was distributed, not due to welfare. You must realize that the US has a capitalist economy, while the USSR did not. The reference to Hitler is irrelevant; liberals have not tried anything of this form. Our healthcare reform was a set of regulations on industry; it is not government-run healthcare (or even a public option for insurance). So it's not like Castro.

Heh, this is one of the silliest posts I've read on GT. Large government is only one part of the political spectrum. There are HUGE differences between a socialist state and a fascist state, even though they might have equally large governments. Which is why they're on complete opposite sides of the spectrum. Fascism is right wing and socialist/communism is left.

So why's it "kinda sad"?

Former_Slacker

Because I have stick to my opinion even more when I go to college. Is there a problem with that? :|

Um what? College is all about challenging yourself and opening/exploring your views. If you have any confidence in them then it won't be a problem. So you're saying you don't want to stick to your opinion?

Like I said in my last post. I am a very closed minded person. I'm going into college for continuing my education (and having some major fun). I have major confidence in them. But I don't want to feel insecure.

Why would you feel insecure about your beliefs if you truly believe in them? If you do then you'll have no problem.

Lets just say you were Conservative, wouldn't you feel better at a Conservative school (not just a school, but any public place, or even a news station)

Well judging by Stewert and Colbert's success it's very easy to dispute.

Edit: You also haven't tried to refute any of the claims made against you.
