TC, i went through a recurrent major depression for four years. I am now well.
My advice to you is
a) exercise, aside from the sciencey endorphins crap, it really works. I used to play a hell of a lot of squash, i was not very good as i had ME and it knackered me, but for goodness sake, exercise is just a brilliant anti-depressant.Plus depressives get lazy and you don't want ot put on weight, because you won't feel good in yourself. (Unless you are a jolly fat person, then that is fine)
b) meet new people, hell, even if it is making a friend over xbox live or WOW, try to get involved in parties or communal activities. This honestly really helps. And i know you will feel a bit like a social troll and want to do nothing of the sort, but the only way you are getting better is if you commit, do so.
c) Read. You might hate books, but i always find they are great company.
d) Find something creative to do. If you're musical, artistic, have writing ability, or whatever, exploit this. Most depressives are creative in some way, it's simply a weird fact. Probably because they're more sensitive to the world around them.
e) See a doctor. I put this last, as it normally only stops you from going so low, so low that you might off yourself. But i found that the doctors never helped me get better, i helped yourself, since you are adamant you won't commit suicide, you could give this a miss. But even seeking councilling from say your parents or friends can help. They don't need to be proffessionals, just ask their advice and tell them how you feel.
If you do start feeling suicidal. Go straight to a doctor. Before you do something selfish and stupid.
Sorry if that's long. But i know where you are coming from.
