Best American City: New York City Or Los Angeles?

let's be honest here, these are the only two american cities that matter. so which one is better? which would you rather live in?

for me its new york is the better city. theres a running joke about ny vs la that helps explain why. Only difference between NY and LA...In LA they say "have a nice day", but they really mean "f--- you". In NY they say "f--- you", but they really mean "have a nice day".

I have only been to LA, it is pretty ugly looking most of the time, but that is why I enjoy it so much

West coast has so many fantastic cities split between Seattle, Oregon, San Fran, San Diego... LA is for coke heads

New York is pretty great though, I will admit that much.

LA sucks. San Francisco, San Diego, or pretty much every other major city in California is better than that dump.

Between those two, NYC is the only valid choice. Although, there are many better cities than either.

New York:

1. Financial captial of the world
2. Sports capital of the (at least) the US

Both are highly overrated.

Of those 2, New York is better because most of LA is just apolluted, over crowded, crime filled piece of *****. The nicer (rich) parts are good though.

NYC has much more lore and it's kind of cool, if a bit overrated.

What does LA have going for it other than gangs and pollution? When I was there I was stuck in traffic most of the time.

C'mon people we all know that San Diego is the best city around. Followed by Vegas.

LA?!?! Los Angeles!? Are you kidding me? You think LA is one of the top US cities? My god...

I havent even been to New York City but I am telling you now that I can guarentee you it is 1000x better than LA.

Of course, San Francisco trumps them both :D

Seriously, though, I get a lot of tourists at my work and whenever I ask them where their next stop is and they say "LA" I always say "Oh...Im sorry" lol

even if they have a lot to offer, the very fact that it takes 30 minutes to go, well...anywhere...pretty much makes it a pain i nthe ass to do anything.

San Francisco and Chicago

I haven't been to NYC, but I love LA

Between those two, New York is my obvious choice.
