Top 10 Current MCs
Here is a list I made of the top 10 current of today. The requirements were that you have to have put out at least 2 albums/mixtapes in the last 4 years.
10. The Game
The Game deserves this spot because The Documentary was a terrific album, and it brought some hope back to the West Coast. Doctors Advocate was alright. It had some hot tracks along with some not-so-hot tracks. So The Game is a great rapper, but he came close to not being good enough to make the list. I look forward to seeing if he can deliver on his upcoming album "L.A.X.".
9. Ghostface Killah
Ghostface Killah is probably the most consistent member of the Wu Tang Clan. Last year, he put out "Big Doe Rehab", which was up there as one of the top Hip-Hop albums of 2007. Ghostface proved to us that he can still spit. The only problem is that he's seen better days. A few years ago, Ghostface Killah probably would have been a little bit higher on my list.
8. Talib Kweli
Last year (2007), Talib released "Eardrum". It was a very good album. Even after about 10 years, Talib still remains to be one of the top MCs in hip-hop. He has the same problem as Ghostface Killah, though. He's just not as good as he used to be. Don't get me wrong, he's still a great MC and no doubt deserves to be on this list, he's just not as good as he was on "Black Star","Train of Thought", and "Quality". Back in the early 2000's Talib would have been Top 5 maybe. But with "Eardrum", Kweli shows us he can still rap.
7. MF Doom
Some people may not have heard of MF Doom because he's more of an underground rapper. If you haven't heard of him, you should definatley listen to some of his music. "Madvillainy" was an amazing album. MF Doom is definatley one of the better rappers out there today. Oh yea, and that mask is pretty cool.
6. Scarface
Scarface has become one of the most consistent rappers of all-time. Since "Mr. Scarface Is Back" in 1991, Scarface has been putting out great albums. In 2007 he released "M.A.D.E.". "M.A.D.E." was an amazing album, and had some very good songs (although none quite as good as "My Block"). Scarface always delivers with terrific lyrics. After 17 years, Scarface remains as one of the best rappers today.
5. Joe Budden
Joe Budden is one of the most underrated rappers. He always has great songs and deep lyrics. Joe Budden is known for his "Mood Muzik" mixtapes. His most recent "Mood Muzik III" was no disapointment. I had many great tracks including "Dear Diary", "5th Gear", "Family Reunion", and "Send Him Our Love" plus some more great songs. There is no doubt in my mind that Joe Budden deserves to be called one of the Top 5 MCs in the game.
4. Lupe Fiasco
In 2006, Lupe Fiasco became famous after dropping "Fiasco's Food & Liquor". "Fiasco's Food & Liquor" was no doubt a great album, and there was a new great rapper. Now in 2007, Lupe Fiasco made "The Cool". "The Cool" was a loose concept album, based on a song and its titular character from his debut album. Lupe Fiasco has a s.tyle different from most other rappers. His beats and lyrics are very unique. He really makes you think when he raps. With a few more years of experience, Lupe will probably be even higher on the list.
3. Common
Back in 1994, Common made one of Hip-Hops greatest songs, "I Used To Love H.E.R.". Now 2008, Common remains to be one of the best MCs. Common still has the great lyrics and great flow. In 2007, Common released "Finding Forever". It featured great production, mostly by Kanye West, and some standout songs like "The Game" and "Misunderstood", which are some of the albums gems. Common seems to be just as good as he ever was.
2. T.i.
The "King of the South". T.i. is one of the best rappers out right now, and that's why he's at #2. T.i. has a great flow, and always makes big jams that get you going, but they also are always full of great lyrics. In 2007, T.i. released "T.i. vs. T.I.P.", which was suppose to show the battle within himself. "T.i. vs. T.I.P." was a great album, and one of the best of last summer, but wasn't quite as good as "King". For about the last 5 years, T.i. has delivered hit after hit. He has earned his spot as the second greatest MC today.
1. Kanye West

In 2004, Kanye West released "The College Dropout". Next he released "Late Registration". And just last year in 2007, he released "Graduation". All 3 of these albums are definatley c.lassics. Each album is full of amazing songs. Kanye West has great beats (produced by himself) and has amazing lyrics. No other rapper has lyrics more meaningful then Kanye. This is why he is the greatest current rapper.
Best - Aesop Rock, Edan, Q-Tip, Immortal Technique, Common, Gift of Gab, Latyrx, Lyrics Born, Busdriver, One Be Lo.
Worst - Turn on the radio, MTV, or BET.
Best: None
Worst: All
I'm sorry for being extremely cliched and unoriginal. I guess in trying to prove the point of my not liking rap, I threw out any shred of intelligence I had in favor of a more inflammatory, albeit, as mentioned before, unoriginal way. Watch the clever: LULZ Can't spell crap without RAP lulz.
Just kidding. Edan.

There are other white rappers too. Although Eminem is the most well-known. I think lots of people like him because he is played a lot more on the radio and stuff. Because lots of people who aren't into rap/hiphop like Eminem.
And in reply to the thread, I don't know many rappers but Soulja Boi sucks, and i like the Hilltop Hoods and the CunninLynguists.

I don't want to list ALL of my favorite rappers, since that's a lot. I'm a big fan of 8Ball & MJG, though.
The worst rapper I can think of is Shawty-Lo...
