As far as bass guitar goes (and I'm assuming that what you mean when you ask "bass", otherwise you wouldn't have mentioned Cliff Burton), Rob Wright. He can play circles around any other bass player.

What are you going to do next?Make a thread about best guitarist and go on about how Kirk is the best? Then move on to singer and say that James is the best? What will you do when you run out of Metallica members?

I will be heavilly insulted if he tries to say that James is anything close to being the best vocalist *shudder*

On topic, my FAVORITE bassist is Matt Freeman, but out of the bands I listen to I'm aware that Flea would probably be the most talented.

So you agree with the Kirk part? Then James must be the best in the rhythm guitar section.

There were kids at my school last year when I was a grad (they were niners) that ACTUALLY thought Sid Vicious was a talented bassist and I went ape**** on them. Like come on, everyone knew he was a gimic, Sid knew he was a gimic! he was just gimic with a lot of heart...until he got the heroin..

The Sex Pistols were essentially a boy-band, so everything they did was a gimmick.

Better video of poorer quality, but since you're so heavily invested in Cliff Burton, I don't care.

James Jamerson.

Playing fast is remarkable, but doing a slow jam like he did is mind-blowing.

Video

He could play anything from a slow jam to a Les Claypool solo.

Hands down

Maybe y.tim.k (RATM) is in the running as well.
