In response to Sonicare's thread, what do you think is the best all around country? For me I think probably France or Switzerland.

Quite honestly, the US. And not just out of blind patriotism either, but because it is the last country to protect its high moral standards and ethics, to protect all religion from persecution. The US is a country willing to fight for it's ideals, protect it's fundamental beliefs, etc. etc.

You will find these qualities near unexsistent in other countries.

The culture (altough pretty good) is not the reason i love Uruguay, its my homeland. I just like Argentina because most of my family lives there.

This coming from a nation where you're not allowed to make a movie which is anti-bush or anti-war? :| And last time i checked, i live in a nation where i'm allowed to say as i wish, practice any religion i wish. And i know our government is a HELL of a lot more open and democratic than the american equivalent. But whatever.

I don't want to start another debate on religion and politics, but you do know that most of the founding fathers were deists. So really this country wasn't founded on any ideals that support organized religion.

Dubai is amazing! Tallest building in the world, indoor skiing and probably some of the best bazaars of the Middle East. Not to mention the Palm and World development projects and the plan to build the biggest airport in the world. If I was rich I'd live in Dubai, in the top suit at the Burj al arab of course:wink:

I suggest you reread my original topic. I never said we were more free. As a matter of fact, there are somethings i think we are too "Free" on. I said we were someone who still held out morals and ethics, and were willing to fight for our beliefs, etc. etc. its up there.

Including freedom of speech and religion. You then go on to say that these qualities are "unexistant" elsewhere. That's absolute nonsense. That's all i'm saying here.

our freedoms are still intact I think it's just that the attitude towards them is changing. Remember that fiasco over the Dixie Chicks speaking out. The popular thing now is to sort of have blind unyielding patriotism.

I haven't flamed anybody. And i even stated that there's no problem at all with somebody loving their country. And as well as that, at no point did i say my homeland was any better than his. So i dont see any of your complaints, really.

All i said was that it is indeed fine to love your country, but it's annoying to start comparing it to others. If i said, as he did, that the UK is the only nation to stand up for it's morals (freedom of religion, open speech etc) and that such qualities and behaviour are "unexistant" anywhere else, i'm sure you'd be quick to point out that this is not the case.

Yeah, I seriously think its time for a sniper mission haha.  She is treasonist.  This was the same thing that happened to the Roman Empire, and we all know what happened there.  We need to get rid of her and hilary fast.

BULL, If that was true, Nancy polosi, Hillary clinton, and most of the people on television wouldnt be allowed to speak!

I think they fit the bill of "I love America, support the troops!" pretty well. The politicians you refer to are very much more centrists than liberals. Their public facade is very patriotic.

You obviously dont know who nancy pelosi(sp?) is. She is the new democrat speaker of the house, THE MOST LIBERAL PERSON ON EARTH. She HAS spoken out against the war, against bush (Calling him the biggest mistake in history, and she practicly insulted the voters), etc. etc.

The most liberal person on Earth is either John Lennon or Bob Dylan ;).

Why turn this thread into a flame fest? He has as much right to list his homeland as you do yours.

And I don't know where you came up with that movie analogy.

LJS9502_basic

I haven't flamed anybody. And i even stated that there's no problem at all with somebody loving their country. And as well as that, at no point did i say my homeland was any better than his. So i dont see any of your complaints, really.

All i said was that it is indeed fine to love your country, but it's annoying to start comparing it to others. If i said, as he did, that the UK is the only nation to stand up for it's morals (freedom of religion, open speech etc) and that such qualities and behaviour are "unexistant" anywhere else, i'm sure you'd be quick to point out that this is not the case.

You disagreed with his opinion very strongly. It was his opinion.

Disagreeing with an opinion makes me a flamer now? Sorry, but it's fine to say you love your country. When you start claiming yours is the only nation on earth to stand up for freedoms and morals, you're simply BEGGING other people to point out how wrong you are.

We have movies that are anti-war and anti-Bush. In fact, we probably have movies that are anti-everything.

our freedoms are still intact I think it's just that the attitude towards them is changing. Remember that fiasco over the Dixie Chicks speaking out. The popular thing now is to sort of have blind unyielding patriotism.

the most liberal peron on Earth? There's a difference between being patriotic and being critical of your government. I don't think she's blindly patriotic but one exception doesn't void the fact that probably 40% of the country thinks you should always support the government.

HOWEVER....Canada does come in to a very close second. I like Canada and all - but USA is still better IMHO :) (im sure canadians are gonna disagree but thats ok...i dont mind :) )

I disagree.  The Dixie Chicks had every right in the world to speak out and say whatever they wanted to say.  They were not thrown in jail or executed on the spot.  But just as they had a right to make a statment or protest, other people had a right to disagree with them.

Freedom speech and the right to assemble does not mean that the population has to welcome your viewpoint with open arms.  You just have the right to express that viewpoint.

As for blind, unyielding patriotism, Bush has an approval rate of 30% and is continously roasted on newshows and blogs.  I would hardly call that blind.

I suppose one could split that to 20% for each party. I doubt Republicans would want to support democrats blindly, and the same on the democrats. But i highly doubt you will find many who would want to always support the government no matter the party in control ;)

Dubai is a city, not a nation. The UAE is a nation.
