And Wintersun. Postmortem123
If only they weren't dead production-wise post-2004...

the only bands that weren't shìt in 2011 (as in, actually current) were Dragonland and Dreamtale.

Muse, The Killers, The black keys.

I don't think there will ever really be a hugely influencial band like in the past though.

If we are actually being serious and talking about current rock music then Arcade Fire, Deer Hunter, Radiohead, and Beach House take the cake by a landslide. If I had to pick one, I would say the current best band in the world are the Arcade Fire. Consistently fantastic albums, never set themselves to high nor take themselves too seriously. A bunch of incredible talented musicians.

Lots of really terrible bands being posted. Seriously garbage. For me it would probably be between Tokyo Police Club, Grizzly Bear, Big Troubles, Cymbals Eat Guitars, or Cloud Nothings. Can't really decide.

I legitimately can't tell the difference between shinedown and bands like three days grace. Just a bunch of "bro" music /hipster Basically, they're generic garbage with extremely, let me emphasize that word, EXTREMELY little creativity.

I find it easy to differntiate the two:? Now, I wil agre; I dont expect them to form the next wave of a music revoloution. However, I will say they do have creativty in what they do, and are good at it. There songs are fun and I really enjoy listening to them.At the ned of the day it is difference in taste, and starting a debate in music generally better appraoched without a direct insult if you want an actual disscussion.

You can't argue over creativity. Both those bands do their own melodies/lyrics/arrangements. Which means they have some creative energy, no matter what you guys think about them. They are commercially successful acts- someone must like them.

I could say The Killers are the best band ever, but you could argue back and forth all day on why or why not.

You already made your point, I agree, there isnt a whole lot technialty going on wth eithr (however 3DG has a kickass drummer they need to better utilize). The riffs arent complex. But they're simple and good. I enjoy it. Again I will disagree over their level of creativity, there creativyt level is fine. I dont expect a huge tonal shift or genre shift, ala' Linkin Park. They are creativily fine with what they do. U not enjoying them, is ur personal taste.

Music borrows from itself all the time. Do you know how many songs are rooted in just I IV V? Thousands? Huge components of popular music are melodic motives and text. You can't copyright a harmony- for good reason. Saying a band sucks because their arrangements are simple is stupid. You just don't like them.

That's a contributing factor to my disdain. Not only are they technically boring, but they have nothing new to bring to the table style wise. If you're going to play music like that, at least have entertaining personalities, and halfway decent/varying music like the Foo Fighters or Red Hot chili Peppers.

Muse by a veeeeeeeery long shot

They're going to be the most influental band in the next few decades, quote me on that.

Engrish_Major
They're too derivative to be that influential. They haven't really done much that hasn't already been done, especially by Queen and Radiohead.

Agreed. My favorite band, but no they havent influenced much.

I take the thread title to mean non-heavy rock bands that are still together. I could be wrong.
