Everyone states how great British humor is. That it's "smart" and "intellgient". Now, I've watched some old school stand up like Mr. Bean, and two Monty Python movies, and I just dont know...I thought they were complete rubbish. People state British comedy is satirical genius, but I found no such thing. Python was just funny voices, silly walks, and charactersdressing up as grannies. Things I would have thought funny when I was in elementary school. Am I not watching "true" british comedy? Is there a good stand-up you can point me in the right direction of to help me get a clearer picture?

Watch Blackadder. It's probably the best TV show in existence. Other TV shows I liked were Fawlty Towers, Are You Being Served?, 'Allo 'Allo and Monty Python. Yeah it can get a bit silly sometimes but if you watch the right stuff it can get very witty. How can you say Monty Python are nothing but silly voices and walks. Watch Life of Brian and Meaning of Life, hell even the Holy Grail. Those movies are full of satire and clever jokes (I also enjoyed Erik the Viking which I saw recently. It's probably funnier if you're familiar with Norse mythology though).

The older stuff is the best though. British comedy today just doesn't compare to the influential earlier shows they all seem to copy. Obviously I'm biased but I've never understood how someone can't find Monty Python funny. Life of Brian is regarded as one of the funniest films ever made.

Original "The Office" by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.

Also: Garth Merenghi's Darkplace, The Mighty Boosh, Peep Show, Extras, The Ricky Gervais Show, and if you want more maybe the IT crowd (has a laugh track and pretty campy but is still pretty good if you just want more)

oh yeah i forgot Da Ali G Show, heheheh

The Mighty Boosh- Watch season 2 first though. It's the best season and carries over no story from the first whatsoever. I'mma tell you It's the funnies thing I've seen.

The Young Ones- Pure nonesensical comedy at It's second finest (Before the Mighty Boosh). A cult classic also. You'll love it.

And also, MONTY PYTHON IS NOT JUST STUPID VOICES!!!!!!!

Yea i never understood why people considered british comedy to be witty and intelligent.

I mean i guess if you are comparing it to a larry the cable guy movie.

But the US has far better offerings.

That's not true, sure the older comedy from the 60's isn't funny at all (at least to me) we got some awesome stuff in the 80's, all the way to this day.

shaun of the dead and hot fuzz were simplistic comedies with kindergarten punchlines (havent seen the others). Will farrell can freestyle better comedy in his sleep.

put on some thick glasses and annoy people with inapporpriate questions? in comedy, thats whats known as a hack... if you have to create an alternate persona to be funny... thats means... YOU ARE NOT FUNNY. Ask larry the cable guy.

What if you have a character you play in a show? Technically an alternative Persona, is it not?

Might I ask also, Is Larry the cable guy one of those american "comedians" who puts on the role of a complete dickhead, only to ammuse nobody except halfbrains?
